9mm Compact Double-Stack Pistol Reviews Follow-up

I agree with the evaluations of these pistols but I'd also like to add that the Glock 43X can be modified into a double stack magazine by using a Shield Armory magazine built just for this purpose. If 15 rounds isn't enough for you, then you can get the magazine extensions that adds another 5 rounds for a total of 20. Shield recommends that the magazine release be changed to theirs because it's made of metal and the Glock release wasn't designed to work with a steel magazine.

Purchased 3 of the S15 mags when they first released them. Trying to get 3 more for my daughter but no luck. Backordered for months. No need for mag extensions on a 15 round mag IMO. I have +2 on the factory G43X mags. That's all that's needed.

I'm not looking to double stack my Walther PPS.
It's small & single stack for a reason.

If i want to use double stack i'll use the PPQ, or PDP.

I am so sick of reading about various semi handguns that for the most part all have poor accuracy and marginal to poor triggers I could puke. Put them in a bag, shake it about, and pull one out. You seldom ever read any negative reviews because they all advertise. Read about one you pretty much read about all. Wonder nines....yup, wonder what they are good for. I know, you can kill a fellow human being at 9 yards. How would you like to be in survival mode needing to shoot a squrirrel 90 ft up a big oak tree 20 yrs away to feed yourself?

That's what my Sig 226 SA is for.

That's why 22lr was invented.

I might take that shot with my 9mm's, or even my 1911 in 45 ACP, using a neighboring tree for support.
Wouldn't be much left of a squirrel though.

So, would you be willing to let someone take pot shots at you at 90 feet with any one of the "wonder nines"? Surely they couldn't hit you.

Head shoots only, come on man. I have often thought I would be very comfortable defending myself with my Browning 5 in bull barrel .22lr. Superb trigger (tuned), 10 shots that can be fired very quickly with accuracy do to lack of recoil. Might be acceptable in most circumstances.

No, when I sense his intent or see his weapon I have already shot him. Average human 90 ft with me turned side ways to him.....he will miss. You ever been to a public range?. Several years ago here in my home town multiple police officers, well trained of course, and an out of town drug dealer in a shoot out at about 15 ft. Half the width of the street. Police fired about 30 rounds, bad guy about a dozed. Result , bad guy had 2 or 3 superficial wounds was in no way incapacitated, he surrendered. So if a bad guy has my wife in a headlock 20 ft saw at I want to be able to take that shoring knowing he now has a third eye. No wonder mine for me, you use what you feel confident with as I do.

Lets face it.
The hyposed squirrel 90ft up, 20 yards away is not what the typical carry pistol scenario was meant for.

30 yards away, you have distance to work with.
They were meant for contact to about 15 yards.

And while I do only carry 8 rounds in my PPS, I'm hoping that that is enough to get me out of a situation.

Recent video I saw of MD trooper being hit by suspect with a 2x4, the trooper put 12 rounds of 9mm at close range in the suspect before the suspect stopped. Distance of 2-3 yards.

So, yeah, I could see the want for a double stack compact 9mm.

I'm a fan of Jframe's for small / lite carry when a full size can't be carried. With my 432 or 332 smith i can hit more than most with full size guns. And i am not worrying about jamming..... plus if you ain't defused the situation in 5-6 shots those extra rounds ain't going to help.

I prefer my 870 or vepr 12 with 16 pellets of #1 buck. God mage shotguns for a reason.

I have a single stack 9mm shield as a edc. I always use the extended mags with the pinky plate. I cant shoot well quickly without all my fingers on the gun.

But pistols (no optic non magnums) in my mind exist only as a defensive tool when I can have nothing else or something to keep a bad guy occupied till I get to a long gun.

As long as the extra capacity of these things don't hurt the reliability, concealability, or comfort of carry of the gun for the individual I would say bullets in your gun are like good friends, the more the merrier.

That's my daily carry gun. Love it. There was a comment about 15 shot mags which are not compact.
Not true. My G43x is compact yet a double stack 15 Rd mag was manufactured for it. These compacts are not designed for anything but close quarters defense 3-7 yards max. Actually all combat pistols regardless of size are made for that exact scenario. How many gunfights or defense scenarios are won or lost at anything past 30 feet ? I never did the research but I'd guess a very small percentage. I only have a compact pistol for the delight of carrying it vs a full or even midsize model. Why not utilize the highest capacity possible without sacrificing it's compactness ?

My PPQ must be broken. I seem to have no trouble with clay pigeons at 50yds. Also made 5/5 headshots on a 2/3 IPSC at 40yds while on the clock at a recent match. Cheap ball ammo too...

I agree that almost all polymer semi-autos are the same. Because they are that GOOD now. Of course my custom 1911s and tuned wheelguns are more accurate, but not by much. And they don’t carry 18rds. And while I would trust my life to my Ed Brown, it is the last thing I would take knowingly into a situation where ingress of FOD could cause a malfunction.

Nothing saying they aren't accurate but being a small compact pistol, they aren't made for longer range shooting. Considering most aren't match pistol shooters, the odds of making a 5/5 head shot on a 40 yard target isn't realistic with any pistol timed or not. That said, they get it done and are very concealable as well. I love my G43X pistol. I had a 43 but the grip was too short for shooting without adding a mag extension. I figured if I need to add an inch of magazine to the magazine, I might as well get the one inch longer grip G43X. Doesn't really make the pistol much less concealable but adds 6-8 rounds to the pistol. I'd much rather carry 2 mags vs 3. Big fan of the S15 mags
