98 MAUSER PRICE?

HEY EVERYBODY, I KNOW OF SOMEONE WANTING TO SELL A COUPLE 98 MAUSER ACTIONS FOR $75. I HAVEN'T SEEN THEM YET BUT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD DEAL TO ME. JUST WONDER IF I SHOULD SATCH EM UP OR LEAVE EM? IT BE A GOOD POJECT FOR A 257 ROBERTS SPORTER.

Kinda depends on what you will be using it for.I have a mauser98 on a 22-250 with Douglas 26 inch varmint barrel that just glass bedded & its won some small local shoots, but that used to be one of the better ones until the customs came along. If the actions are in good condition, sounds like a good deal. jmho

A good 98 action at this price is certaily a good deal, but quality can vary from perfect to extremely poor depending in the manufacturer and year of manufacture.
All those made after 1943 are to be considered as very poor.
Those made by Mauser, Brno, Steyr among many others are excellent.

After 1936 Action origin can be easily identified by either a letter and 2 digts,S42 for Mauser for instance);Wartime ones ny 3 letters,bnz for Steyr for instance)
WW1 models bears most of the time the name of manufacturer and year 'Amberg 1916). They are all top quality.
Polish,Radom) and Czech models are also excellent. They are identified by the national crown.
