95 gr. smk long distance ?

i have a savage f class precision with a shilen 6 mm br barrel . it shoots .1 s and .2 s at 100 yrds. . is anyone shooting long distance with them , 600 - 1000 yrds ? i just started shooting them and i like the trajectory much better then the 107s .

I have shot the Berger 95 vld in a 6br out to 1000...as Froggy says at 1000 you will be working...

Just a thought but trajectory doesn't mean much if you are shooting known distances. I would look at wind deflection when comparing the 95 to the 107 over 1000.

Agreed , 95's worked good to 600. When you start pushing 8-1000 yrds, the work starts when she's-a-blowin.
I had some decent holes with the Sierra 100gr spitz at that distance.

FWIW, they knock the crap out of whitetails at 400!

my ballistics chart shows at 900 yrds,. the 95 gr. mk. deflects only 1 inch in a 10 mph. wind compared to a 107 mk . with my loads (30 gr. of varget in 107s and 30.8 in the 95 gr. mk) and almost 30 " of drop in the 107 . Not arguing , just wondering why the 107 is suppose to be better at longer distance . thanks

In direct answer to your question typically heavier bullets for caliber retain fps over longer distance (vs light for caliber bullets) and therefore perform better with respect to wind drift.

It is possible for a lighter bullet to deflect less than a heavier bullet if the lighter bullet is pushed much faster. I'm not sure what fps you are using for the 95 vs the 107 (as Froggy says I would recheck the data) to compare but I wouldn't expect .8 grain more to push the 95 that much faster for it to be a good option over the 107 at 1000....maybe .8 of a grain has done that so well and good.
