95 Gr Berger VLD in 243 9.5 twist

Anyone shooting the Berger 95 Gr VLD's in a 243 9.25 twist? 9 is recommended but I think I should be fine. I don't however think I could get away with shooting the 105's even though I would like to.

I used to have a 9 twist 243 and it shot the 95's fine. 95gr Sierra MK & 95gr Precision Ballistics BTHP Match bullets shot MUCH better than the VLD's though. I tried some 105's and just wasn't happy with the strays that it would sometimes shoot at 400-450yds thus gave up on the idea. WD

My shooting partner and I have had inconsistent results with the 105 AMAX & factory Remington 243 in Utah(higher elevation).
Cold/lower velocity it was unstable.
The 95 VLD shot great out of a that rifle from 100-1000 yards.

I shoot 95 gr vlds with no trouble in a factory rem. barrel 1-9.125 or 1-9.25 twist. can not remember which they are. I live and shoot mostly above 4800 ft . in elevation though.

Sounds like I should be good with the 95's and thanks guys. They didn't have any boxes at the reloading supply but they did have a 12 pack "Load Development" packaged by "Bullet Proof" for $9. The display had bullets in 12 sample bubble packs from many makers. Not a bad idea if you are looking to try out a bullet and don't want to pay for a 100 box just to find out they don't work for you. 12 ain't that many to work up a load with but I could go with 4 stages of 3 to get me started. That being all they had made me pay the little more.

Thanks again.

I shoot a savage 12bvss 243 with the 1-9.25 twist with 95 vld. I must say it shoots AWESOME! I shoot Winchester brass H4350 and if my memory is correct at 41.9 grains jammed .010" in the lands with BR2's. It shoots 3/8 at 200 and sub inch at 500. I have shoot several no wind groups in the 3 inch range at 1000 with it.... And it clocks at 3050 here in GA. So your answer is yes it will work. In a Savage anyway. Matt

Yeah I know.. Its a hummer barrel for sure. I am going to be sad when I shoot it out. I have had several 243's and none even come close to this one. I have a couple of 6.5-284's that wont even come close come to think of it. lol I attached a golfball pic from 500 yards hanging on a string. Matt
