95 BIB Problems

Just built a 6BR no-turn using 1-8 twist Bartlein 5R .236 bore and Borden Tube gun action in Eliseo R1 chassis.
I had 1000 95BIB all same lot I wanted to use for 200yds. Have not been successful in getting them to work better than 3/4MOA with Varget, CCI 450, and Lapua brass. About 31.2 of varget was the best powder charge and varied seating depth from +.015 jam to -.010 jump. always about the same no matter what I do. My gun does not like them, or the Sierra 107 SMK. With Berger 105 VLD at -.003-.006 my rifle easily does .25'MOA.
Will these not work in 8 twist. 236 bore? Try different powder (have RE15) or what? after about 50 rounds down range with these I am about to give up on them, sell them and go with 105VLD.
Any help would be appreciated.

From my experience I have to always had to use a bushing .002-.003 smaller than BT bullets with any of the BIB FB bullets.

From my testing, CCI 450 primers were not near as good as BR4 primers, especially with Varget. This was extensive testing at 1000 with BR rifles. Matt

You should call Frank from Bartlein barrels...those are very fine barrels, dont get me wrong, but it seems that short, FB bullets DO NOT like 5R rifling...I would buy 4 groove only for project as your is.

Forgot to add that last time out i used CCI BR4 primers, with no change.
I do have New Krieger 4 grove 6 Dasher barrel that will replace my BR barrel if I need to use it. Just need to screw it on and shoot as I already have new prepped brass and tools.
Last resort though as wanted to get away from Dasher for short range.

After reading your post a couple times I think you have at least 2 options. #1 Sell the BIBs bullets and go with the 105VLDs would be the easiest way out. #2 if you want to pursue the BIBs bullets further, you should first try a seating depth ladder and a neck tension ladder with your current load.

IF you decide to try R-15 you might want to revisit the small primer test again and include a Winchester small rifle primer with the R-15.

Sorry if I missed it, but I didn't see the length of the barrel or the contour listed? Lastly, have someone check your crown. JME. WD

I'm sitting here thinking that I've read that somewhere before. I searched it and pulled a blank. 5r rifling and the 6br.

Barrel is HV and 28" long. Crown is perfect, less than 150 down it with various bullet types.. Done with PTG no turn neck reamer throated for the 105 class bullets.
Think I will just sell the bullets and go with the Berger 105VLD which it likes. No issues tuning them.

The 95 gr BIBs shoot exceptionally well in a 10 twist barrel. They seem to perform best if you don't over stabilize them and if speeds are kept in the 2900 fps range. My barrel is a 6 groove Benchmark and has shot 0.75" (5) shot groups at 400 yards.

Question, have you mic'd the Bib at the pressure ring? they may run large? some barrels like them, some hate them.

If you haven't sold them yet, this is good advice. With a "no-turn" neck, the BIB 95 - typically, .2435" heel and .2433" shank diameters - may not have enough clearance/release to work with your brass, in your chamber. If a bullet will not slip into a fired case neck, neck clearance could be an issue, in which case, I think, WyleWD's option # 1 may prove best. RG
