93R17 Barrel Removal

Ok, I have a nice Classic 93R17 T model and I need to remove the barrel to get it threaded for a suppressor. Does anyone have any idea how these barrels come off? Thanks

They are pressed and pinned in place.

Savage 93? Just strip it and leave the barrel on the action . I have done a few like that.

I guess why does the barrel need to come off?

How else do you plan to put the barrel into the chuck of a lathe?

86.... The part I don't get is why put a suppressor on a rimfire barrel...sound reduction maybe? It sure isn't going to help your accuracy. Remember, anything you attach to a barrel effects the harmonics of the barrel and can be adverse to accuracy.

How about just like any other round barrel like tube?
Put the stripped action through the headstock and align it with the outboard spider , then dial barrel in with the chuck . no issue nothing different from any other muzzle thread job using grizzly rods to dial off the bore

. I have done this many times and it works very well and saves time and hassle.

why not? that's the real question. I want to be able to hunt without ear protection, already have a Silencerco SS Sparrow in jail, so I would like everything I use to be nice and quiet.

i have a 93 22 magnum that i run my sparrow ss on and with the federal 50 grain rounds it is reasonably quiet for a super sonic round.

the sub rounds like eley subsonics and the aguilla are really quiet . like so quiet crows dont fly away when i miss.

Depends on the make and model of the lathe, but my 'smith was able to thread the muzzle of my 93 simply by removing the bolt (no provision for iron sights, so nothing else had to be removed) and chucking it up in the lathe as described above by Matthias. With subsonic and many standard velocity .22RF rounds it is quieter than most air rifles, and with supersonic rounds it makes a crack down range from the shooter's perspective.

It's a great combination for dealing with pests at 6am without disturbing the neighbors using a quality standard velocity ammo.
