9 Twist

I have a 22-250 with a 1in8 twist that I had built for the 75 grain V-Max bullet. The barrel is a Krieger, and Krieger suggested the 1in8 for the 75 grain pill. I have also shot the 55 grain Hornady bullet from the rifle, and it also shoots well.

I am looking at ordering a new Cooper in 22-250. I would like to shoot the 52 grain Calhoon Double Hollow Point as my primary bullet. However I would also like to have the capability of shooting a heavier bullet on occasion. Not as the regular bullet, just on occasion.

So I was thinking if I order the Cooper that I should order it with a 1in9 twist?? Does that sound about right?? Or should I go 1in10??

One last question. If I decided to only shoot the 52 grain bullets then what would you consider the optimal twist?? 1in12?? Thanks, Tom.

I have seen one of the technicians at Berger (his name escapes me at the moment) quoted as saying that a 52 grain bullet in a 22-250 is the ideal choice for a 1 in 14 twist.

Its all about bullet lenght. That is why a 60gr round nose will work in a twist and a 55gr pointed BT won't work in the same twist.

Go with the 9 twist. I have shot the 40 grain vmax all the way up to the 75 gr amax out of my 223 9 twist

One more for the 9" twist. My 26" Savage 9" twist .22-250 shoots 77 grain Sierra Matchkings very well. I am shooting a mild H4350 load around 3240 fps.
