9.3 x 62 - Looking for Comments

I’m new to this caliber and just purchased a barrel for my Blaser R8 with a goal of doing some European driven boar hunting. I’ve managed to get some brass and bullet heads in 232, 250, and 286 grain.

Looking for favorite load and bullet data and your experience of hunting with this round.

You will love this cartridge. I have had a Mauser and a double gun and both knocked over what ever I was shooting within 250 yds. or so. Reloader 15 works very well so Reloader 15.5 should be even better on hot days. Try the Nosler Reloading manual or Hodgdonreloading.com for more loads. This cartridge has the distinction of being allowed in some African countries for dangerous game as it was one of the first cartridges brought to the Continent in the early 1900s and has shown itself as very capable.

I've got one in a CZ 550 FS (full length stock). It's pretty light weight for that caliber and it'll knock you back. Have the dies but have yet to reload for it. Don't shoot it enough to burn up the factory rounds I have. Those are 286 grain Remington Express and 285 grain PPU. Love the gun but do not get a lot of trigger time on it.

I have been wanting to replace my 375 Ruger as my black bear gun with a 9.3 x 62 for a while now, last week I got some time in the shop and installed a 9.3 x 62 on one of my commercial mausers. I like barrels on the short side for ease of handling and cut this one to 19,5". Bear hunting over bait in the woods does not allow for long shots so the loss of muzzle velocity is not an issue, it will still punch two holes in the intended target.

I got the scope mounted on it today and will load some rounds tomorrow and get out to the range get it tuned and sighted in for a spring bear trip in northern Sask. Not much difference between the 375 Ruger and the 9.3 x 62 just some history. The 375 is built on a Rem 700 and I prefer hunting with Mausers or Win 70's of the pre-64 variety.

Good enough brass is easily formed from .30-'06. Good results with Woodleigh and other exotic bullets for exotic purposes and making conversation. I suggest Nosler Partition or Accubond for all normal use. A more reliable cartridge than anything up to and including .338/.340 Weatherby within its limitations. These days John Barsness is to the 9.3x62 as Jack O'Connor was the to the .270 Winchester.

Great caliber and will run 5 in the mag with most rifles
I have a 1962 built Husqvarna 1640 action
I use the 286 gr hornady with ADI2209 which is H4350 in Lapua brass
others I know use varget/2208 as 2209 fills the case pretty quickly
This caliber is known for accuracy and is very easy to load for.
