8x57 rem 700 throat length

just picked up one of these and measuring the throat length it seems very short, only 170-180s will seat to neck bottom. any of you have simular experience, did you rethroat?

Bob, I'm sure your rifle is chambered to SAAMI standards which really limits bullet seating depth in some instances. Do you plan on rechambering for a deeper throat?

P-man, disapointed and considering selling unfired as is.
dont want to spend xtra $ and time, bought it as a novelty and it is less usual for my purpose with it as is.

When I moved from Germany back to USA in 1991 the only 8x57 ammo I could find in most States was 170gr and very anemic. I want to say the Remington Cor-Lokt was usually all you could find. The 196gr. stuff was not on the market and the other stuff was 150gr. Greek surplus. A lot of the 8mm bullets the heavier ones were designed for thee 8mm Rem Magnum so they did not expand well at 8x57 velocities.

If you like it and got a good deal on it I would have it re-chambered with a Non-SAAMI finish reamer. Sadly Americans which I am tend to screw up anything not invented here routinely. It was stupid of Remington to do this! I have often wanted to get my hands on a Remington 700 Classic in 8x57 Mauser but not now.
