88 ELDM 223 Ackley ring nose

I had a guy ring nose cut some bullets for me to see how they would perform

88eldms 223 Ackley

Just wondering how they would be for prairie dog shooting maybe they'll give us a little more explosion like they claim to be

Impact velocity has a lot to do with expansion or in this case the lack of. I'd guess those 88's are only leaving somewhere around maybe 3000 fps which isn't particularly speedy so I don't know that I'd expect much in the way of explosiveness especially on a small soft target like a PD.

I went prairie dog shooting with TUBB. And we were cutting those rings out in the field. On really thick jacketed DTACS. They definitely increase explosion. The deeper the cut the more they exploded.

If you could put those in a cartridge that it will move them out there closer to 3200 feet per second I bet they work really well. Certainly will have a very high hit percentage. I am very curious to see what you find out.

The best compromise has been the 62veldvt. Amazing bullet.

2950 speed

Finally got to take those bad boys out and do a range report I myself between 150 to 400 yards did not notice a big difference between ring nose to non-ring nose bullets anywhere from full size prairie dogs to mid to babies it just depend on how they were laying up or what position they were in if it blew him up or if they just destroyed them

So they did blow up then? You must be more specific!! Hahaha

And they were going under 3000 fps. That might be considered pretty slow for varmint bullets. So, if they exploded at all that would seem to be a success. :)
