87gr vld Berger loads

Doing a new build here guys. I could use some load data on Berger 87gr vlds
I am a fence sitter on twist rate and am going with a 1/9 twist the barrel is on order but time to change it. I will not be shooting heavys this it being set up as a varmitter. I have other customs in 22-250 and 6mm but the 6br is new to me. I am going to plan on shooting the 95 to 80 grainers to buck the wind some. I'm ready to spec out a reamer. My boy has been shooting a 308 tactical an likes the berger vlds.

80g bullets is as heavy as i can stablize in a 12 twist. therefore you will need at least a 10 twist for the 87g bullets.

I have ordered a 1/9 twist. I plan on shooting nothing heavier than 95gr. I need some pet loads or some input on loads for the 87 grainers.

I have a 10 twist Dakota 6BR that shoots 87 gr berger VLDs really well when pushed by 32.0 grs of Varget.

I have not chronographed the 87 gr Berger/32.0 gr Varget load yet but I’m estimating about 3150 fps in my 24” barrel. Maybe a little more but 3150 should be pretty close. I was shooting yesterday at 200 yards getting ready for a 600 yard match this weekend and shot a .340” 5 shot group with this load out of the Dakota. Most groups out of this gun/load combo shoot in the .4s and .5s at 200 yards as long as the wind doesn’t get out of hand. Then I go to my 6.5 Creedmoor. In calm conditions I think the 6BR is more accurate even though the stock on this rifle doesn’t have a flat forend.

I know you are shooting a BR but I though I would share what the BRX can do. Out of my 28" bbl I am getting 3360 with an 87gr VMAX with H4895. That isn't quite at max but it is at the top end of the accuracy node and I am going to back it off 30fps. That was my coyote load for this winter and I am going to start some work ups with 105's now for summer.

kevinv,
You can go with either a 1-9" or the 1-8" twist rate with no issues. In fact a higher twist rate actually helps long nose bullets like the VLD remain more stable as they pass through the trans & subsonic sections of their flight. As far as "pet loads". Every rifle is a law unto itself. You will have to tune the load to YOUR rifle. Please go to our website and read "VLDs making them shoot" by Eric Stecker in the BLOG for information on bullet seating depth testing. For loads we would need to know what powders you either have or are wanting to get so we can get you helped.

I did the research and was at the website and settled for the 1/9 twist wanting the best of both worlds. I've reloaded for to many years to know the sweet spot. The 22-250 an 6mm I know very well. The Br is new to me, I have the reamer on order and settled for a match br with a .066 free bore, .271 neck after talking to Dave at PTG. All the info I can find I have read, the load data is what I could use. If you could send me your data on just the Br from 80gr to the 95Vlds. Mainly the VLDs is what I am needing for a starting point. Not to seem cheap here but I don't want to buy another reloading manual to have sit next to the others I have. The two I need are the VLDs. This may be the last build I do unless a new barrel for my 250 to a 22br or just a fresh barrel with MY reamer this time. I thank anyone for their input an Help. As for powders what ever seems to be common to all that works for the BR,, Varget, Imr, ect. For instance my 250 loves 4064, the 6mm I used the 4064 with a 60gr HP and it shot bung holes, but I picked up a pound of Scot 4065 and wow, I ran out and got 2lbs. Now my boy has it and I get to visit it now and then and RL-15 is a equal to it.
