87 Vmax for Pdogs Opinions Wanted (and go!!!)

I have lots of barrels I can shoot in 6mm now :)

I normally shoot the 85 Sierra HP, but I figure those are gone for a while. So, I bought some 87 Vmax. I have never been a Hornady bullets fan I admit. I do know they blow up really well.

Opinions?

It'll do a lot more than you need for P dogs, but maybe that just means you can do it from further away. They are my go to for coyotes though. I haven't had one walk away from a meeting with them. I've found them to be pretty accurate as well, with several rifles getting them to a little below 1/2". I never bothered to chase it much below that. All in all, I'd say you did well just to find some!

I tested a bunch of the lighter 6mm bullets. They really lose accuracy after about 300. The slightly heavier bullet seemed to have been a good compromise.

I have a 100 freebore 6xc here I could donate to the making of splody. :)

My go to bullet in a 6BR for the longer range dogs. 3150 is about as fast as I can push it with Varget. Crazy accurate...very explosive on the target.

They are very difficult to keep in tune but like my buddy says who cares! If you miss take another shot, they're cheap! LOL!!

My poodle shooting buddy has that very combination. Works great. The fun starts at around 400 yards.

Urban, the 87's may get you re thinking your mind set. My 6 BRX 10T with H4895 shoots tiny bug holes with the 87's.

The mind has to be like a Parachute to work properly, OPEN! Try some different bullets from time to time, 75g V max in the 6 XC, 87g V max, and I hope you can experience the 58g V max in a zero to .020 freebore 6 XC...glory....

My freebore is .030 and those 87's are whistling Dixie! Nothing to fix on this barrel, boring. Went to two Dashers...one makes me want to bang my head on the wall.

I have half a dozen 50 FB 6xc sitting right here...

Personally, I think that, group to group accuracy of, the 87 V-Max is, Barrel / Twist and load, "dependent" !
1-9 to 1-10 TW being, the BEST ( see Ackleyman's post ) I did not have, great luck with, Group "consistentcy" in my, 1-7.5 TW, 6 XC !
My Tikka .243 Win 10 twist, shoots them, very "well " and the 87 gr. Berg HVLD'S,.. BEST !
I found that, the 80 Sierra "Blitz" Varminters #1515 and 80 gr. Berger FB Varmints, were, MUCH, better for, ME !
Oh MY, do the Berger 80's "shoot", GOOD !
And for distances past, 300 yds the 95 gr Classic Hunter, Berger's shot well in MY 6 XC and, they cut Sage Rats in half, but NO,.. "acrobatic's" like, the V-Max.

YUP,.. THIS ^^^ they went from,.. 3/8 " to 3/4 " dia groups for, ME in, a "Tack Driving" 6 XC, 1-7.5 Twist ! !
Not MY,.. "cup of Tea" ! But will shoot, WELL, the in my .243 Win for Coyotes as they do "great" in my 1-10 Twist !

My criterion 1:8 in 6BR loves the 87 vmax. Shoots tiny groups and is devastating on prairie dogs. Body parts and red mist!

I have not sold a single one!!
If I didn’t already have a 1-14 6BR for varmints, I would have chosen your 0FB BRA over the 050 BRA.I needed the FB for the 80 Berger. I really want to do a slower twist 6XC or 6GT. It’s hard to find twist rates conducive to traditional varmint bullets.
