8208XBR load help needed

I have a new Mossberg MVP 7.62 NATO 18.5" barrel and have a good 175SMK load w/4064 and 150 Hornady FMJBT bullets w/H335 (acceptable mil spec accuracy) loads but now would like some help on using 8028XBR with 150 bullets and LC LR brass accuracy loads. I have a small stash of Sierra 150 boat tail match bullets that I would like to try.

I do not normally use max loads.

And yes I am told the 4064 gives an interesting fireball.

Any input would be appreciated.

As a point of reference only, I use 44.9 XBR 8208 with 2156/Scenars/2155's in Hornady brass with excellent results in 21" GAP10. 2817 avg-low ES/SD.

As a data point for you I've been using IMR 8208XBR for four years now for Palma shooting. 29" & 30" barrels in 1:12 or 1:13 twist, Lapua Palma brass & either Berger's 155 Hybrid or 155.5 Fullbore (at first Sierra's 2156) with 45.0 grains. Case life is excellent, accuracy and consistentcy @ 3,025 fps SD<8. In a new barrel this year I bumped it up to 45.6 with the Fullbore 155.5's after noting they were a little slower at the lower load level than the Hybrids.

You won't see these speeds in shorter barrels but even at a lower node the accuracy should be good.

(I load 22 grains of 2400 in my 185XTP 44Mag loads in my Desert Eagle just for the muzzle flash alone!)

There is one thing to keep in mind " pressure".

8208 in a 308 can go way past the pressure rating for 308.

You can go to there web. site and plug in the numbers .

I have a friend with a Brand new Barnard action and a 30' Krieger Barrel. He was so proud of how it shot with 8208.
Then he went to clean his rifle after a match. Only to find the bolt face with burnt in star pattern. " Shot Very Well "

Was not a tight Barrel , shot 175gr. Sierra's

Yes it can and that's why I suggest working up to a safe load in any given rifle. I tried it with 185's & found pressure signs at velocities well below what I was looking for. It's not for bullets heavier than 168's (if that) so one needs to use common sense when working up.
