8208 XBR

Donovan, thanks again for all the great information. I appreciate you sharing your experiment.

I am going to work with some 8208 this spring for sure.

Thanks
James

Everyone I know over at Hodgdon has told me at one time or another that 8208 is the most temp stable powder that they have available. I run it in my 223AI and can get some unbelievable velocities with it.

Anyone like to share some load info for the 6BR/107 SMK or 105 VLD using this powder ? Have a jug I got last year and never got around to trying it. Will be run thru a 7.5 Broughton; currently running 30.3 Varget with CCI450's, jumping .015.

In 6XC I run hBN-coated Berger 105VLD's either 0.020" or 0.005" off the lands with 36.7 grains. 6BR'll need less (of course) so I'd suggest starting @ 28.3 then work up.

For Palma with Berger's 155 Hybrid I run 45.0 grains - Lapua Palma brass, KVB223REM Wolf primers.

Re: 8208 XBR in 260 REm

Also looking at this powder in a 260 Remington. Currently using H4350 and RE17, although I am a little surprized at the RL17 temperature sensitivity shown in the test posted on page 1.

Oughta work just fine I think, case capacity not unlike 308WIN but with lighter bullets. Hodgdon's data page lists two loads for middle-weight bullets, 95 & 107 grains. Let us know what you learn once you try it please!

8208XBR in 6mm PPC works good in my rifle, 64gr Berger bullet with a full case. The gun shoots better than I can. I just shot .200 last week, 100yds

Ran the 6BR yesterday with 28.0; 28.2 ; and 28.4 of 8208, all with the 107 SMK jumping .020 and CCI 450. The 28.2 was most accurate by far, the surprize was the 28.4 showing a hard bolt lift at last bit of bolt travel, and it did not shoot. Velocity was down( average of 2750 ) from my 30.3 Varget load ( average of 2825 ). The 28.2 load put 5 shots in .3 inch at 100. Won't win any matches but was looking good to me !
Today, same load ( 28.2 ), different primers: best group was with Russian Small Rifle Magnum. More work to follow with those .

45 grs 8208 XBR 155 A-Maxes and Wolf primers will get a ES of 5 fps (2841-2846) in 308. YMMV.
