8208 XBR in 22BR

Just wondering if anyone has tried it. Looking for starting load for 50-55 gr heads. I couldn't find any data anywhere. Upon calling Hodgdon, they had no data either.

I am talking about the newer powder, not the old milsurp.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed any light on this subject

I've used it. Worked great, even at 600 and 800 when the wind was down. Don't have access to my records right now, but 30gr works great in 6br with 70 gr, seems about same in 22br.

I would start lower then that and work up 22 will more then likely give higher pressures due to smaller diameter .
Be careful I would start at 27 grains and work up from there. Its a great case just be careful.

Likewise, I tried 8208, but don't have my numbers in front of me. Accuracy node was not found, I didn't get the speeds I was expecting and had flat primers when I quit.

I was going for +3500 with 52g bergers, from a 24" barrel. 31.4g Varget was what I ended up with, great speed and accuracy, with +/- .3g consistent speed node, so I figured it would be fine at any temperature.

I tried it as well with 52, 55 and 60. Could not find a node that warranted revisiting. I went with H322 and it was like a light switch....worked right off the bat.

I plan on doing another barrel in a 7 twist to try the 90's and will revisit 8208.

Ditto. Tried it, but +-. The faster powders really perform in the 22BR...LT 32, n133, benchmark, h322. I recently tried some LT 30 with 55 gr bergers and it REALLY screams...3700 fps!!! Slower powders that worked for me have been n140, varget, and n540.

In the 6br I use it with 55gr bullets and it punches them out over 3600fps with low pressure and evil results on furry things. Great powder.

So far IMR 4895 & RL-7 have been the most consistent and accurate in my 22 BR. 8208 has been great in my 204 & 6mm PPC, but not as good in the 22 BR.

I shot out two barrels with R#15 with 7 1/2 primers, unreal accurate. The lot that I was shooting, 30.5-31.5 was the accuracy node with a 50-52g bullet.

Thank you guys. I haven't been around to respond sooner due to the fact that I had to take a trip to help my daughter move.

I probably will end up using Varget, but do want to try the 8208 because I have quite a lot of it. It hasn't been really accurate in any rifle I have tried it in. Very disappointing to me. Varget always seems to top it

Thanks again

IMR 8208 is my go to powder for my 8 twist .22BR. With a 21.5" barrel I am at 2975 fps. and it's a tack driver with the 75 A-max. Flattens coyotes and rock chucks as far as you can hit them. Several of each taken at over 500 yds. ;D
