8208 xbr in 223 with 55 grain bullets

Hi folks,

any one care to share their experience with using 8208 xbr in the 223 with 55 grain bullets?

my Rem 700 sps stainless seems to like it best close to the max in the hornady recipe book, but also seemed to have a few other spots it liked reasonable well.

Start at 24.0 and work up .3 increments with XBR 8208. 8208 is becoming a popular powder and is working well for me. A friend of mine is shooting it in his 223 F/TR matches and is doing well. He is also shooting it in his 308.

I just loaded up some 8208 teamed up with 55gr VMax @ AR mag length. I've tried them in 2 different AR's and they shot extremely well in both.

so far I shot some 3 shot groups a1 100 yards with the following results with sierra 1360 55 gr bullets.

24.3 gr, was about 0.6" center to center
24.6 was about 1.2" center to center
24.9 was 0.6" center to center, one might be a pull not sure, the other two touching
25.2 was 1.1" center to center
25.5 was about 0.9" center to center
25.8 was 0.4" center to center.

trying to figure out if I should go up a little more or play with seating depth a little, they were 0.030 off the lands

Bill,
moving the bullet towards the lands will give you more volume so less pressure, 0.4" is not bad.
If you move towards lands would you have to single load or still magazine?
i shot the 55hornady fmj @ 2.26"(my mag.length) out of my AR15 1:8 twist 26" barrel into .9", 8 shot group @ 200 yards in LC brass weighing 92.5+/- .5 gn loaded with 24 gn WC 842 powder sparked by CCI400.
i measured these going 3240fps over a oehler 35p chrono.
look for primer flattening.

I've been using 8208 for some time now with 52 gr. Bergers. The attached target was shot last month with my stock 1:9 twist Savage Model 12 LRPV. They are all three shots at 100 yards using 24.6 grains of 8208 and Br4 primers with Winchester brass. The barrel continues to foul more than a near-sighted batter after more than 2200 rounds but keeps on going.
