8208 in 6br 14 twist

Hey guys, Has anyone tried IMR 8208 XBR in a 14 twist 6BR with 68 grain bullets. This is a 100 and 200 yard rifle. Thinking of trying something new. Thanks, Mike

A shooter that competes at our Score Matches was using it so I gave it a try. I started out lighter than he was loading and still had hard bolt lift. I went back to Varget. I just learned he had moved on was now trying LT32.

What load are you and your friend using - I am using 33gr, @ ~3460 with no problems.

I believe my friend was using 33gr as well. I started at 32 when I experienced the heavy bolt lift. As compared to my normal load of 33gr of Varget with a nice smooth bolt. The 6mmBR is the fastest growing cartridge at our club for short range Benchrest. Varget is the most popular powder.

IMR 8208 is about 2 shades (or so) faster than Varget.. What would be a MAX on Varget would MOST LIKELY be over the top with 8208. However, 8208 is an EXCELLENT powder worthy of a real run at it! It is clean burning, relatively "cool burning", VERY temp stable>>>and lot to lot consistency is on par with VV powders!

I use 29.5 gr of 8208 in my 14 twist with 66 grain bullet. In my rifle it shoots very good to 300 yards. Don't know muzzle velocity, but it hits where I aim.

My 6 BR is a 10 twist set up for mid-weight bullets. I shoot 30.5 to 31.6 grains of 8208 XBR behind the Berger 87 grain VLD Hunting. Very nice.

Give it a try and start near the bottom and work up slowly as I have tried it and it worked real well. I see another post here is quite high to start with and that is a no no in anyones book.
