Greg,

http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html

Here's a link to a burn rate chart on Hodgdon's IMR site. Notice IMR 8208 XBR is item #70, just between Accurate Arms 2460s & H-4895. Maybe you can fit 8208 into your chart from this.

I appreciate that fellas. The reason i even thought about this is for my 22BR. My ppc shoots to good with 133 for me to even mess around with this 8208, plus i have about 12lb of the 08 lot n133. that should last a while! Anyway my 22br with 63gr cheek bullets really shoots well with benchmark but i thought about trying this 8208. I have 5lb of the stuff and im not sure what to do with it. I havent heard anyone say that there rifle shoots best with 8208 no matter what the chambering? You fellas think 8208 is a good choice for 60gr bullets in a 22BR? Thanks again! Lee

Lee, I believe it would have to be a good choice I base this off the fact that H4895 work so well with 60gr Vmax's in my 22br.

Regards
RJ

I do not have a .22 BR but shot this group Friday with my .223 40XBR. The load was 8208 with CCR BR4 and Berger 75 VLD in Lapua brass. It averages about 3025 fps from the 22", 8" twist Hart HV barrel. This is the best I have seen with the Berger 75 in this rifle. I am still working on 8208 .308 loads with 155 Scenars, Sierra Palmas and 155.5 Berger Fullbores.

sleepygator, I'll be watching for your report on the .308 and 155 Scenars. I'm here wearin the floor out pacing back and forth waiting on my .308 to come home from the Smith. Had a reamer cut from a dummy with the 155, COAL @ 2.925. I'm sitting on a 8 lb jug of XBR and 1300 scenars.

What is your charge load to get this velocity-- it is 300 fps higher than imr's website for 8208. I have a barnard 223 cal 1-8 twist which I have to start doing load development for LR shooting in 223 and 308 win. Thanks, Steve

The usual disclaimers apply. Start 10% lower and work up in 1% increments. This was a max charge in my rifle. No pressure problems but the primers, while not flat, had as little roundness as I care to see. It will be interesting to try this again in the summer when it is 100° and see how temperature insensitive 8208 really is.

Lapua case, 31.0 water capacity, neck sized w/.249 bushing
CCI BR4
25.1 g 8208 XBR
Berger 75 naked, seated 2.393, just touching
Velocity 3027.4 average, 32.9 ES, 12.4 SD

Shot March 17 at 80° when we were having a little summer preview. It shot .459 then with 4 in .204. The flyer probably my fault.

As the series advanced, average velocities increased as expected and groups sizes decreased steadily.

Load Velocity Group
23.90 - 2875.0 - .927
24.20 - 2909.7 - .821
24.50 - 2952.8 - .747
24.80 - 2988.3 - .621
25.10 - 3027.4 - .459

Let me start by saying I do not have a chronograph but I ran an ocw test with the 8208 in my 308 with 155 Palmas(2156).
Rifle is a Rem 700 SPS V bedded in a HS Precision Stock.
I ran up to the max load, listed at Hogdon, of 45.3 gr with no signs of pressure.
For me, I found 44.8 gr IMR 8208 XBR, Lapua brass once fired and trimmed to 2.005, CCI 200 primers and oal of 2.850" shot consistently in the .5 moa range with less than .25 vertical stringing at 100 yards.
I hope to stretch it to 500 this week and, if anyone is interested, let you know how it shoots. So far seems to be a very consistent powder. Thanks,
John

I have just started working with 8208 in my 6mmBR, but the results have been VERY good.

Groups sizes at 100 yards are averaging in the .3's for 5 shot groups shot without flags and in the 1.5" vertical range at 600 yards. I have not been able to catch calm winds and was shooting with no wind corrections at 600 yards so the horizontal was about 5 inches.

I have been shooting VARGET loaded to 30.2 grains with a 105 Berget BT and have found that 29 grains of 8208 is max with the same bullet, brass, and seating depth. Velocity compared to the VARGET load is the same - 2950 fps out of my 30" Krieger barrel.

So far, 8208 seems to be GREAT!

George
