8208 a dirty powder?

I run 8208 in my 17-223 AR15. Not sure when I cleaned it last, it doesn't see that many rounds as it is strictly a coyote hunting gun. But, the bolt was nasty dirty and gummy. Cleaned up ok, but I don't remember having that problem with 748 or any other powder in my 223's.
I am shooting suppressed and that does dump a lot of hot gas in the action. I have the gas turned down as far as I can and still cycle.
Is 8208 a dirty powder?

Not particularly, most guys I know that run suppressed say that they get a lot of fouling in the BCG.
If you have the head room sometimes a small increase in charge weight cleans things up a little.

Every powder run suppressed is a dirty powder.

8208 is no more dirty than anything else I run in my suppressed ARs though; to include Varget, TAC, Benchmark, etc.

Suppressors make gas guns crap where they eat; just the nature of the business. Run your BCG wet, and invest in a nitrided BCG for easier cleanup.

Or go to a piston operated system.

I was 1 of the 1st to try 8208 in AR-15 when it 1st came out. It left a lot of grit in the action. I think they have adjusted the amount of Calcium Carbide in the mix now so it''s not nearly as dirty there.

For the last couple of years I've been shooting H-4895 in my AR-15. This is the cleanest powder I've ever shot in that platform. Not sure about what happens when it's suppressed though.

Assuming your speaking of the new remix IMR product.
Bought one of the first lots available. Someone nicknamed it “little green army men” on this forum (I think). Seemed to have so many chemicals it melted like plastic.
Found the same. Fouling was sticky in the bore. Accuracy was good as long as you kept the barrel very warm. Let it cool for awhile and the fouling “set”. Take a few rounds to settle down again. Saw this in two different rifles and put it on the lower shelf.
Felt very nasty on the patches and didn’t want to clean up. YMMV

I run 8208XBR in my service rifle (RRA NM AR) and it seems no more "dirty" then other powders I have tryed.......I personally feel this is good powder for an AR platform rifle.....lots of accuracy with 69 SMK .....
