80g amax loads

I can't find much info on the 80g amax. I am loading for a 223 savage f/tr. I figure my 6br likes the 105s so why not try some amax in the 223.

I have cci primers and also 450's

Varget
4895 and imr 8208 xbr are some of the powders I have on hand. I shoot 100 with some various charges and oal and see how they do.

I'm shooting the 75 grn amax's at 3010 in a 26" 8 twist. 25.2 grains Varget lit by 7 1/2's. You should max out close to 25 grains because I am not even at max with this load. Depends on your feeebore too, mine is .100

I found H4895 to shoot much better than RE15 or Varget pushing 80 Amax's in a service rifle. I think you will find that 8208 is accurate but quite a bit slower fps. People that use it to push 80's usually run too hot of a load since they are trying to achieve the fps number they hear about using a slower powder. If you want speed use a safe max load of a slower powder, not an over max load of a faster powder.

I have used 25.5 of Varget (bolt gun 1,000 yard) but it's very ruff on brass. I was playing around with loads and came across 23.7 of varget with a BR primer. I also use the #450 CCI and don't really see a difference at 300 yards (our max local range). It keeps them in the 10 ring with about 1/2 in the X ring at 300. I no longer shoot 1,000 with the .223. I keep it to mid range (3/5/600) and am much happier.

I have shot this bullet in my service rifles. 23.2g 8208 jump 30, or 24.5g Varget same jump. It shot extremely well, but I believe they quit making that bullet.

I have purchased the new 10th edition Hornady reloading manual and it shows all of the A-Max bullets are being discontinued and replaced with the new ELD style bullets.

That's interesting. I went to a gun shop on Friday and they had 7-8 boxes of them on the shelf.

Cory;
Here is a picture from the Hornady 10th Edition Reloading Manual it shows all of the A-MAX Bullets Discontinued and replaced with the ELD-MATCH & ELD-X Bullets. Also, the manual states most bullet BC's are at 200 yards and the new ELD bullets BC's are from 800 yards. I'm not sure how my Sierra Infinity 6 ballistics program and the new new ELD 800 yard BC's are going to fare together.
