800 yard quarters

A few years back Junebug, Shayne, and I got tired of 800 yd EGGS and decided to try quarters. We put a shoot-N-see paper on a plastic backer and taped quarter to the backer. Sighters showed up on the Shoot-N-see so we knew what corrections to make. Closest to center was a toss up but my head shot was the tie-breaker. Junebug did his with Vapor Trails, I think mine was with Tubbs 115 Rebated, and Shayne's was with the Tubb 115 DTAC Rebated,
Tom Jacobs dropped by for a photo shoot with Junebug. Maybe I can find the pic.
Each of us used 6mm Dashers

I think it was 2017. Been awhile but it was fewer than ten.
Junebug did one last week using sighters on a metal plate next to quarter rack. Maybe 5th shot got it
damm... and I get ecstatic when I plant 5 in a row in a 4in plate at 1000 after a few sighters!

This a re-print of a PM I sent to Birddog the other day.

I didn't want to hijack your post, by posting this pic on your thread, but it reminded me of something that I did years ago. I spent 11 years as a sniper for the State of Ohio. During one of our monthly qualification drills, I proceeded to punch holes in 4 consecutive dimes at 200 yd. (Including the cold bore shot) Using a tuned REM. 700 in .308, shooting factory 168 Federal Gold Medal match. The shots were made from the prone position using a Harris bipod.
Enjoy

Thanks! I had a very accurate 700 Police Special in 308.

What is a "tuned" Rem 700?

I would say blueprinted, face trued, lugs trued or faced, barrel threads fine pointed, etc.
Tuned probably refers to tuning your load to the barrel, powder, bullet, etc

Speaking of tuning have you ever tried Tubb's 115 nose ringsl? He swears that testing showed them to have a more consistent bc-vel downrange than the normal sierra ones. I have wanted to check this myself shooting at my garmin hidden behind a plate hanging on a t-post. I didnt have the right spot due to backstop and the needed 20-30yd free flight past the clock but found one. Now to wait for no wind day as this could interfere.

I have not tried nose ring. I do shoot the 115 rebated BT. Keep us informed on the testing

I dont think i will be able to test to the degree tubb did but I am hoping to see an improvement. I'll take anything i can get!

Aren’t all rem 700’s this way??

As these were department rifles, they were sent to Shilen's to have new bbls. installed and the recievers "blue printed". Probably the same as @birddog mentioned. Also, these rifles we only fed Federal GM Match, 168 gr. bullets, so ammo tuning was not an option.
