80 gr Nosler Custom Comp. VS. 80.5 Berger Full Bore

So, because of rain, rain and contractor's installing a tankless water heater I didn't go shooting. While waiting around I decided to weigh the above mentioned bullets. Man did I get a big surprise. I weighed the remnants of 200 Berger bullets, (124) and NONE of them weighed 80.5 grs. The majority weighed 80.4 and 80.6. I then proceeded to weigh a full box, (250) of the Nosler's. Of the 250, 236 came in at 80.0 grs.! The others were 79.8 and 80.2. Now, if I can just get the Nosler's to shoot as good as the Berger's I'll be gold.

Interesting!

For me the 30 cal 155gr CC's didn't shoot as good as the 155gr Bergers. The CC's are loaded in the old iron sighted plinkers now.

I've never weighed the Noslers or Bergers 80's. I have been using the 80 nosler CC, 85 RDF, and 80 berger VLD. They all seem to shoot very well for me in NRA XTC Service rifle. All liked 23.0 IMR-4895 and 0.020" off the lands.

The Nosler 80's can shoot pretty good. I jump them a LOT to get them to shoot. Currently jumping .100" but the load shoots ~1/2 min at 300 yrs. Did this load workup on the 14th, my Palma rifle, 2,860 fps.

Good luck accomplishing that. The full bores are outstanding in accuracy. Seems if Berger is the maker...they just shoot well. I'm a Berger fan but seem lately to spend money on Hornady Amax due to the price. They also shoot well but not like the Berger's consistency. I think you'll find the full bores will outshoot the Nosler comps.

Well, today I went out and shot a 5 shot group with the Nosler's that measured .301. In the back of my head I know the group could have better. I don't know about you guys but, my mind really messes with me when I start seeing one big hole start appearing on the target. All in all the Nosler's shot better groups today then I had achieved with the Berger's. I am not yet convinced the Nosler's will shoot better than the Berger's in my 22 Creedmoor. More testing tomorrow. I really don't care which bullet comes out on top for me as I'm not brand loyal. If my rifle likes a bullet, that's what I like .

The Nosler 80 gr Custom Comp may be one of the most underestimated .224 bullets. They have shot great out of AR 15s and 2 Savage FTRs out to 600 yards. Very forgiving bullet to reload. Don't tell anybody, it seems to be a secret.
