8 lb jug of Varget

Just paid 209.00 for an eight pound jug of Varget that really stung. I think the excitement of seeing it scewed my judgment. The same store had a lot of one pounders for 35.99 thats a little steap. Just nice to see it on the shelves.

Not bad compared to the famous Phoenix shop. $230.00 in store price, $36. for 1 lb.

By today's standards, you made out ok considering an 8# Varget from Powder Valley plus hazmat and shipping is about the same. Not to mention, you found it in stock. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I was in a shop today that had a couple 8# jugs of it. They wanted $219 before tax. I don't need any so I left it.

I saw a few "unicorns" on July 31st at the Scheels in Bismarck, ND. Was unusual enough I had to take a picture. I didn't buy any, but a fellow shooter returned the next day and they were gone. Notice the $199.99

I just paid $207 including tax for one at my local sportsmans. I couldn't pass it up as this is the first time any one local has stocked 8 lb jugs of anything. Lately I've been paying $40 per lb including tax locally so $207 is a deal.

Since typically you can't backorder powder online anymore you have to be lucky or really quick when the notification arrives.

Cheers,
Toby

I snagged an 8# @ Scheels in Minot at that price about 5 weeks ago.

IMR 4064 $159, using the same load data in my rifles as Varget. I don't see any difference on the targets...and IMR 4064 is readily available..Ray

On a hunting trip in Wyoming last week , the gun shop in Lander had 2 8# jugs of Varget for $200 each + tax.

I quit looking at "past prices" long ago. If I spent much time over what I used to pay I'd probably blow up the next gas pump I pulled next to. I remember paying under $0.30/gallon and "half a buck" for a tray of primers.

I seriously doubt that any of us will ever see "fifteen buck a pound" Varget ever again, even when we do see it.

If you keep paying the prices, they will just keep on rising! However, I'm not telling you guys something you don't already know.

Seems to me the only way to save many $ reloading is to focus on the cost of bullets and brass as powder is only about 5-7% of the cost of a round (assuming you get 10 reloads per pc. of brass).

The price of powder to a shooter is like the price of gasoline to a driver.

I agree, but the main focus should be on your vehicles MPG not on $ .02 gal at the pump....just sport😜
