8 groove/8 twist Shilen barrel

This barrel is presently chambered for a tight neck .243 that I have never shot. I bought the Panda actioned silhouette rifle for the action. I am thinking of rechambering the .243 barrel to something like the 6mm GT or 6x47 or perhaps a 6xc. The barrel is 1.25inches at the receiver and has 1.1x diameter for the last 4 inches. The barrel is presently 25 inches and I am thinking of using it to teach one or more of my 9 grandsons how to shoot. Should I rechamber or perhaps take 2 aspirins and forget it. James Mock PS-It now has a McMillan 3inch fore end BR stock and I have a PPC and a Dasher barrel for it.

Years ago I bought a 1/15" 7-groove .30 caliber barrel from Shilen, the slowest twist they did at the time. They were WAY behind the curve on twist vs. bullet length. It was a challenge and never measured up as a score benchrest tube. Luck of the draw I guess.

I have been thinking of a panda action for sale silhouette rifle, what stock was it in? Seems with the width of this action finding a stock would be an issue

IMO, you should have no trouble finding a currently made stock for a Panda. If you had a Polar, then lots of trouble...been there and got it done with help.

If you are going to completely rechamber it, 6BR or 6XC. But, why not just run a regular 243 reamer in to get rid of the tight neck? Should make a fine rifle for a youngster.
