7x64

Hello. New member here and questions right off the hop. Just got into reloading last fall and so far have only worked on 7x57s. Just this week i aquired a CZ537 in 7x64. Included in the purchase were 100 pieces of new lapua brass along with some 140g trophy bonded and 160g sierra game king bullets. Here's my question.
Only one of my reloading manuals (hornady) listed data for 7x64 and of course the brass used is hornady. Can i use the data, unaltered, and substitute the lapua brass without any alterations in data?
Failing that, does anyone know where i would find data using lapua brass?
Many thanks in advance for any input. Much appreciated.

"Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee, has some pretty extensive load data for the 7x64. I would think that you would be just fine with Lapua brass, as always, start with the starting load, check your brass over for any signs of over pressure and verify that the velocity is close with a chronograph.

I honestly don't know where to find 7X64mm load data specifically developed for Lapua brass. However, as a fellow owner of rifles chambered for the 7X64mm cartridge, I can mention sources I've found other than the Hornady data.

I have some Speer and some Norma 7X64mm unfired brass I'll use for working up 7X64mm loads.

Speer Reloading Manuals I have, from 9 through 14, say the 280 Remington load data in those manuals can also be used for 7X64mm cartridges. Here's a web link to a digital version of the Speer Reloading Manual #12. That's the bottom file in this directory. See book page #230 at the top of that page

Shooters World has Lovex load data in digital form available at their web site, and cross index of Shooter's World powders with Lovex powders. There's 7X64mm load data under the Lovex brand.

Norma has 7X64mm load data available via their app.

Ballistic Studies lists some 7X64mm load data in this article.

Here's where I purchased the Speer 7X64mm brass I have. This is primed brass, pull downs, I expect from the days when Speer manufactured the Nitrex ammunition. If you look at the top of the web page you'll see links to discount codes.

The Norma 7X64mm brass I purchased is virgin unprimed brass. I intend to try to more or less duplicate Norma 7X64mm factory ammunition loaded with 170 grain Oryx bullets among other things.

Thank you Gent's . Just ordered the Modern Reloading manual and will check out the other links.
I used that book like a Bible when I started reloading. There is a ton of good information in it(and a fair amount of LEE product promotion). I read it cover to cover before I ever loaded a round, still use it for a reference.

Think i got it figured out. Between the Federal re-loading data and Modern Reloading data i am going to go with IMR4831 for the 140g Trophy Bonded bullets and see if i can develop something that works well. Right now my goal is accuracy, rather than velocity.

With Federal & Speer being both under the Vista Outdoors umbrella, I'd expect the Federal 280 Remington load data, especially WRT starting load data, being equally applicable to use for 7X64mm cartridges. This site allows pdf download of the Federal Reloading Manual FWIW. I like hardcopy or pdf so I know when something changes.

Here's another site with load data as well as article text on the 7X64mm.

7x64mm MM Load Data

Note at the end the load data the last sentence on the last page says this load data was developed using Speer nickeled brass and Federal 210 LR primers, and says to reduce all loads shown by 4 grains for starting loads.

Great thread and info, following just incase I do reload for my 7x64mm. I have mainly shot factory Remington ammo. I have taken several whitetails with mine, never had any issues.

As a 7x64 shooter I use a lot of Geco brass. Also Prvi make 7x64 as does S&B in addition to those mentioned.

Vihtavouri has a fair bit of load data for the 7x64.

If you compare the case capacity, shape and dimensions of 7x64 and 280 Rem you will see that they are very similar. If you are happy with the risk, you can use 280 Rem data in 7x64. But, as with all reloading, you do so at your own risk and work up your loads carefully.
