7saum freebore for 162 amax

what would be a friendly freebore for this combo?
running 162's in a short action out of an Alpha mag with 2.970" oal?

smith said he has a reamer with .188fb had notes to where that would work with
the 162s at that coal. just want to confirm?

Can't confirm the new 162eld-m are the same as the 162amax, but the new 30cal 208eld-M are identical (within a couple thou base to ogive and OAL) as the 208amax. At least the ones I have are. CBTO is within 2 thou the same as the amax in the barrel I measured them in. 208eld-M Bullet base to tip is 2 thou less than the amax.

Sorry I don't know about the new 7mm 162eld-M, but I don't see why they be different.

Make a dummy round and send it to Dave Kiff to get exactly what you want.

Another idea is to use a reamer with a too-short freebore, then use a throating reamer to get the exact freebore that you want.

162 eld-m will shoot just as well as the Amax. I have shot the x and m and they both shoot very well. Have not taken them past 500 yards but they shoot well out to 500.

I've got plenty of the amax to burn a barrel out and yes the eld-m are the same.
.188 sounded long to me, someone on here can confirm what works im sure.

Anything I've measured the eldm aren't the same. They seat dealer in the case with the same seating. They are more finicky to load in my 7mag also. I still have 600 of the amax. I don't care for the new Hornady. It's a shame to stop a bullet for 2 thousands worth of bc

Not sure but it sounds like the big deal with the new round is the heat resistant tip. They don't call the old tipped Amax "heat shielded". Again I'm not sure but that little BC difference is not worth improving what was already a great performance bullet. I've dug some 142 and 162 Amax bullets from a sand berm at over 800 yards and the tips were all in good shape besides deformity from impact. No heat issues so I'm not sure that actually is the reason either.

I am a bit curious about the ELD-X on Game. If it performs as the advertising Hornady is publishing, I'll be pretty happy. The Amax does the job but rarely stays together.

I am building a 6.5 SAUM and it has an .081 freebore to fit in AICS mags. .188 sounds way to long. Have Smith cut a barrel stub to check OAl before the barrel is cut. Cheap insurance as it is hard to put metal back.:p:eek:

Good luck, Paul
