7MM's for hunting?

I know this might not be the best forum for this but I'm looking to build an all round hunting rifle and just tossing around what I should camber it for. I'm thinking .284 Ackley Imp., 284 Shehane, 7mm-08 Ackley imp. or keep it simple with just 284 win or 7mm-08. I plan on shooting 160 Bullets mostly. Guess I'm just want some input on it. Thanks

Most successful and experienced Ontario moose hunter I know uses a 7mm-08, 150 gr Nosler partitions. He says anything bigger is too much gun, too much recoil, too much meat destruction.

But that is for short range Eastern hunting. Shooting across coulees out West, the .280 Rem is probably a better selection. I have a second cousin in Saskatchewan who swears by his .280 for deer and pronghorns (goats as he calls them). He uses 140 gr Nosler BTs.

My vote is for the plain old .284 Winchester, been hunting with one in a XP-100 for a lot of years, and have one about ready to go in a rifle for the really long stuff..

.284 win it will be. I wanted to stick to a short action. most my shots should be within 400 yards and even on elk it should have enough knockdown power. If i ever take it moose or bear hunting shots shouldn't be more then 150 yard. Thanks for the imput.

On paper the .280 Ackley Improved appears to be about the same velocity, etc. as the .284 loaded long in a long action. So, why not the .280AI? I don't have either. My 7-08 kills everything I have ever pointed it at w/ 1 shot and low recoil. Great rifle. Just curious

284 is very efficient and very accurate, mine is on a long action 26 inch Broughton 9 twist. Shoots 168 bergers like a lazer.
