7mmbr or 6mmbr rifle

I am sitting on almost 1000 rds of 7mmbr with 500+ loaded with 120gr Hornady SP.

I only shoot 100-200 rds per year in my XP100.,I'm keeping the XP for hunting, it shoots right at 1moa, less if I fondled it more I think).

Would a 7mmbr rifle be practical? Would a 7mmbr rifle give me similiar preformance to a 6mmbr? Would it make sense to buy a used 7mm, 7mm-08 and shorten the chamber or a whole new barrel? Or should I go to a 6mmbr and neck down the brass? Would still have to buy a rifle.

This will be another option, read toy) for woodchucks and paper on windy days. 40gr Vmax at 4100 fps from 22-250 do not respond well in strong wind.

Just stirring the bucket with thoughts so all ideas appreciated.

A good friend shoots a 7mmBR in reduced range Centerfire Silhouette rifle matches and does very well, but it does not have the energy for full range silhouette.

The round does not have the performance of a 6mmBR in long range shooting nor the following of the 30BR shot in benchrest.

I would sugget that you keep your ammo for your XP100 and hunting.

Some friends shoots 7mmBR pistols in IHMSA matches. One of them will build a 7mmBR rifle mostly for fun on reduced silhouette rifle matches and some hunting.

For what do you want your rifle, primary use and others uses)? I think it is the most important question. Once answered, it will be a lot easier to coment about the 7mmBR rifle option.

A 7mmBR is a practical rifle for many applications. It compares quite well with a 7mm-08 depending on what you want to do with it. It would not be great for super long range competition, but for hunting, including woodchucks/groundhogs, it is great. Check out the Hodgdon web site for information on velocity and see for yourself. In terms of velocity, 7br with 120gr. is similar to 7mm-08 with 160gr., and 280 with 168gr., but with much less powder and recoil.
