7mm08 recoil

Ive never had the opportunity to shoot a 7mm08 and Im wondering about how punchy it is on recoil.I was given a Browning .270 action to play with and Im thinking I might barrel it in 7mm08.Im well used to shooting a 6.5x55 and wondering is the recoil better or worse than the than 6.5X55.

The 7/08 will put out a bit more felt recoil than the 6.5x55 will, but a lot depends on individual weight, bullet weight, and stock design too....
I wouldn't consider the 7/08 a hard kicker though..

Gamma, everyone in my family that hunts shoots 7-08, except one son-in-law who shoots a .260 Remington. My own rifle weighs 12.5 lbs and recoil is so mild that I see the hits on game. 120 gr Nosler Ballistic tips are deadly on deer and very comfortable to shoot even in a Model 7. I like the .260 also, and it is milder than the 7-08,it can use lighter bullets).

In a .270 length action I would opt for the .280 Rem. Great cartridge, but noticeably more recoil, with 160 gr bullets). The longer cartridge might feed more reliably than the 7-08. The 7-08's are on short actions, so I have no experience feeding .308 length rounds through a .30-06 length action.

The 7-08 is a phenomenal killing round and a great first rifle for anyone, including women and children.

Good luck, Tom
