7mm08 Lee collet die for 7SAUM?

Has anyone successfully used the Lee 7mm08 collet die to neck size 7mm SAUM? Or can I just use the 7mm mandrel in a 300 WSM collet die body? Just trying to figure out if I can get this accomplished using some pieces I already own. Thanks for any help.

It should work because the neck diameters and cartridge lengths of the 7mm-08 & 7mm RSAUM are very close and the inside neck or bullet diameters are identical. Never tried it - but my 6mm Remington Lee collet die works just fine with 6mm AI. If any problem occurs it will be because of the body diameter difference at the shoulder.

I use the 7-08 mandrel and collet in a 300wsm die, works perfectly.

I would encourage you to not to neck size a 7SAUM. I have used Lee collet dies in the past and they work quite well for a couple/three firings but then the chambering problems start. Then someone will tell you to start using a body die, etc...

The question really is what is about the LCD that appeals to you?

Joe
I guess one would need to F/L resize again. They appeal to me because they are cheap and produce good ammo. Some how, possibly by intuition, I usually feel the urge to F/L size before I need to squash a round into my chamber by using the powerful cam forces of my bolt action rifle. Lee does say their LCD's should not be used with other than bolt action rifles.

Joe,

IMO the only useful FLS die is one fitted for the chamber I'm using & I'm not prepared to pay that money for every barrel I install. The average off the shelf FLS die sizes the neck more than I want and/or to a different degree depending on the brass I'm using, the consequence of which is that the neck needs to be modified by dragging a button back thru it, which may or may not attenuate the shoulder to a degree that makes the shoulder bump component irrelevant & may or may not skew the neck depending on the quality of the shell holder used.

You're correct that it may be necessary on occasion to size cases somewhat & I get by with a body die to do that generally, then neck size with the LCD.

Thanks for all the input. I have had great luck with the Lee collet die with .308, .243, 260 and .300 wsm. I would just go buy one if they were available on the shelf for 7SAUM but it would need to be a special order from Lee. I found I can get great results quickly with little effort . I do FL resize after 3 or 4 collet sizings but I do like the no lube convenience of the LCD.

Thanks Dino67 that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. That's the route I will go.

I would think that as long as the 7mm saum case fits inside the 7mm/08 collet it will work. Along the same lines I use my 25/06 collet die to size my 257 Weatherby mag cases. Works great.
