7mm wsm??

I am looking for a 7MM cartridge that will push a 7mm 168gr Berger 2900 fps, I was looking at the 7mm wsm but I don't know if it is an accurate or efficient cartridge does anyone have experience with this cartridge or maybe a better one?

No need to step up to the full 7WSM for what you are looking to do. You can get there with a .284 Winchester, .284 Shehane, or 7 SAUM. Depending on your barrel length and throating, you might be able to do it with a 7-08.

The magnums you are talking about are all capable of running the Berger 180s up to and beyond 2,950 fps. and will run the 168s to 3,100 fps.

Depending on your barrel length needs/wants and your boltface, anything mentioned in the 7mm cartridge section on Accurate shooter will do what you want, and they give some load info in that writeup also.

The 7mm WSM is certainly plenty accurate and will easily accomplish what you have stated. If you want a factory rifle, this is a good route to go. Having been working with a Savage custom shop rifle in this chambering, I have pushed 180s to 3000 fps with Ramshot Magnum with good results. Results haven't been as good with the 168s for some reason but velocity is there.

If it were my rifle, I would chamber in 7 X 300WSM as the brass is far better than the junky W-W 7WSM you are stuck with, as an added bonus, you have a longer neck and a more efficient chamber.

Even the good ol' 7mm Rem mag will boot that 168 out at over 3,000 fps, no problem. Great bullet by the way.

I think the straight .284 with modern barrel twists and powders is more than adequate.
