7mm WSM recoil reducers

Hey guy's I found this board a few days ago and am pretty impressed with how sharing everyone is with info. With that said I have a couple questions that maybe someone can help me with.
1) I bought a new Winchester 700 7mm wsm this year strictly for hunting, that may change after all the reading I've done here...itch, itch...bugs) this girl packs a heck of a punch and I am torn on muzzle brakes, looks like the Vais is top of the line to me...are they worth the money? Then today I read about the Mercury reducer's...not a whole lot of talk on here about them. I searched and only came up with 4-5 threads on them and most of them were remarks in passing, all old). Do they work well? Can you pair a brake and the merc?

2) My oldest boy has a Ruger .260 and it packs a little to much for him as well, would either the mercury or a brake be better for that gun? I have another son 4 years younger that will use the .260 when he turns 12 and will probably move the older one to a .270 or maybe my old 30.06 if puts a little meat on his bones between now then!!

I know this may seem a bit on the "rookie" side for you guy's, but I would appriciate any and all advice!! We will be hunting deer and elk...moose if I can ever draw.
Thanks

on a hunting rifle that kicks to much, the first thing i would do is a limbsaver recoil pad. i put one on a 300wsm tikka t3 and it made a big difference. if that isn't enough, i would try a rifle with a brake, but they are louder. see if you can shoot someone elses and stand the noise.
with your kids,if you handload you could make up some lighter loads or try some reduced recoil loads. hitting where it counts matters more than how hard. great to hear you are taking your kids hunting. good luck cliffe

thanks for the response Cliff, that would definitely be the cheapest and easiest way. I cant remember which one I bought for the .260 but we did try one on it and he was still having a rough time with it. I got to thinking after I posted that The .260 is a real short barreled thing, youth model) again I cant remember how long it is I will have to look at it when I get home next week. But will a short barrel effect recoil?
I will indeed try a limb saver on the cannon and see what that does before going to the expense of a brake. The noise factor was why I was looking so hard at the Vais, they advertise as being the quietest and I read their name alot here and other places the last few days. I have talked with Ron via e-mail couple times this week and he seems pretty confident the noise would be acceptable.
And you are most definitely correct on shot placement, I had that pounded in my head by hunting mentor and I understood it the first time I placed a shot that was not just right...hence I started my boys out very early with BB guns, moved on to a little "cricket" .22, then on to full size youth model. My oldest boy has been shooting one of my .223's for 3 years and the youngest just shot it about a month ago by his self, pretty proud of himself he is!). We work on being accurate & fun....that is what this is all about right? Fun!!

Any brake will increase the noise level, can you say ear plugs) but they sure tame those kickers down to manageable levels, and they can be combined with the recoil reducers to help out even more... along with a Sims pad....
Combine all 3 and you'll not even notice the recoil...
I've installed a few different brakes and I find the Harrells to be as efficient as any and no where near the cost of a lot of them....

Thanks for the help Preacher...was hoping you would answer. I checked out Harrells site...big $$$ diffrence. Have you installed or shot any guns that have had a recoil red. on it? I am getting pretty excited about this stuff and cant wait to send a few down range....way down range without getting my a** kicked!
Heres another ? for you guy's...is there a "proper" way to get in the door starting out with this br stuff? Should a person start in F and work his way to br, or is it just pretty much here I am I want to learn and shoot long range br? What would be a good entry level gun that a fella could build on?
Anybody know of a club or range around southwest Wyoming that has event's?
