7mm stw case forming question

How do you fire form stw brass? I recently picked up a sako trg-s in 7mm stw. It's brand new in the box. Since nosler stw brass cannot be found anywhere in the universe. I had to order nosler 8mm remington magnum. I also received some loaded 8mm rounds with the gun. I pulled the bullet and ran the case through the sizing die. I then filled the case 1/3 with pistol powder and topped it off with cream of wheat with tissue stuffed into the neck like I form 6ppc brass. I went outside and KABOOOM! the bolt was very sticky and the primer fell out of the case. I don't really want to shoot a bunch of rounds through the barrel (7stw isn't exactly nice to barrels) and I really don't want to screw up brass that costs almost 3$ a round. So how do you big caliber guys form your cases? I've done plenty of little guys. Thanks for any help.

take a 8mm Remington magnum case and neck it down to 7mm and load a below max 7mm STW load in it and fire. Pretty simple.

you can do the same thing with 300 weatherby brass, neck it down and put a below max load in it and fire, its a belted mag, the belt will seal the case.

:o 1/3 gotta be 30-40 grs.!

Buy two barrels chambered with the same reamer, shoot the first with necked down, false shouldered cases. They will shoot fine. It will wear out quickly(5-600 rds.?), then screw on the new barrel and used your fireformed cases. Of course you will be able to shoot some FF cases in the first barrel as 2-300 cases will toast both barrels if not abused! ;D

All the 7mm STW is just a 8mm rem mag necked down to 7mm. Just size it and load it. There is no reason to fireform the brass.

"xactly....

Use more pistol powder and top it off with the head of a watermellon seed zoom lizard.

A little runny short haired pointer a$$ putty helps too.

Like some others have said, just neck down and shoot. My 7mmSTW loves 140 and 150 grain bullets and RL22 or IMR 7828 with federal 215 magnum primers. I get 3400 fps and good accuracy with the 140 gr ballistic tips.

Most or all brass is undersized so it will fit most all chambers . You must fire it at least once so it will fireform or take the size of your chamber . Because brass is elastic and has springback , it may be necessary to fireform or shoot twice in that chamber . You will not be able to do a false shoulder on your first fired brass , since you are forming from 8mm . Simply size , fill case with a moderate load for 7STW from your loading manual , and shoot . Shoot and reload a second time before starting load work ; you may also want to do a false shoulder at this time . You may have damaged your bolt if the primer fell out , so check it out before you go any further .
