7mm SAW Build

Build specs
R700 action
7mm Saw II 24" Preferred Barrels Remage 1:8 twist medium palma contour
Indain Creek Design Chassis
Riton 3 Primal 3-18x50 30mm FFP
Total wieght of rifle is right at 12 lbs
I will be shooting 162 eldm or 168 vld this evening. Main plan for this rifle is a hunting/comp rifle. Speeds should be slighty faster than 7mm08 and better than AI version. Plus no fireforming with Alpha making brass for WTO

The volume is less than the AI version, so you are not going to get more speed than the AI. It does have the advantage of a longer neck and no need to fireform. The parent works fine, when set up correctly, just more capacity after the first firing.

IF, all else Fails, try some StaBall 65, in the 7mm-08 with, 160+ grain Bullets ( Work up,. carefully ! ).
My son got, OVER,... 2,800 FPS with, 162 gr. ELD-X's and 168 gr H-VLD, Berger's, from His 7mm-08, 22.4" Tikka.
Due to the Tikka's barrel, "Twist Rate", the 150 ELD-X's with, R-17 shot Best for him and that, Load, was used to kill his Nice, 5 x 6 Bull in Idaho, a couple of, years back.
Your 1-8 Twist, should shoot, the 162 and 168 grain Bullets,.. very well

I just finished a 7SAW build using a Proof carbon 24" barrel on an Impact 737R action and am pleasantly surprised at the velocity from a short action / non-magnum bolt face. Alpha head stamped brass with Hornady 162 ELD-M over Varget and Federal 205M primers. So far only have 34 rounds down this barrel but shows promise before finishing the break in.

41.8 grains Varget = 2,777 FPS / ES = 3.0 / SD = 1.2 / .341" 3 shot group.

What grip is that?

Give some 150 gr bullets a work up. Early on before the SAW
was even around, I had done a wild cat that was pretty much
the same. I based it towards the 150gr class of bullets. Reloder
16 had just come on the market.......A few years back, I moved
away from it, going to my shortened 284 Winchester case which
is the same length as the SAW but 3 more grains of powder. As
mentioned.....Give the 140 Berger Hunters a shot also. Should get
around 3000 fps with them.

You will love this cartridge. I'm still shooting new brass. With 162 eldm, H4350, 450 primer I'm getting 2820fps. Shooting .900--1.100 groups at 300 yds. Barrel continues to speed up. Will soon start testing with fired brass and 166 atip and 168 bergers.

What barrel length?

Has anyone worked up loads in the 180-184 gr range?
If so I'd be interested in speeds and barrel length for those.
I did see the WTO data.
