7mm SAUM?

I have a chance to buy a Rem. 700 in this cal,,, for $400.00,guy only shot it 5 times, he didn't like it. Do you like shooting yours???

I bought my 7saum used with a synthetic stock etc. If you are recoil shy, it would not be my first choice...it kicks real good in a lightweight hunting stock, equal to a 7 mag or a heavy bullet 308 round (200 grain round). If you are building a heavy gun for benchrest...its one great 7mm platform except for the lack of good (not remington) brass.

I love mine. Its a M7 and it shoots 140s at 3210fps and I also shot some Berger 180s, but with the short barrel the velocity with accuracy was low at 2700 fps. Mine does not have much recoil. Its on par with a 270 or 30-06 IMO.

I have an M7 and it is nice to shoot if you load 140 class bullets a little soft, on par with a 308.

My hunting load for it is a hot dose of H4350 under a 140 SST and it kicks pretty well, but it's almost too much to shoot if I decide to stretch the legs with 162 Amax and the H4350 or H100v.

Also, the 22" barrel somewhat limits the true capabilities of the case. As far as case capacity goes, it has very similar capacity to the 280 Rem. On a 28" barreled long range rifle I have seen several guys getting over 3000 fps from the 180 Bergers

Brass is difficult to find, factory ammo is impossible, and the brass you do find (RP cases) are both expensive in pocket and time invested to get good quality and consistency from it.

Thats a really good price for a 7mm SAUM... I have 3 and for $400.00 would have 4 of them... They drop 165 # deer really nice with 140 BT's......
My Remington brass has been nothing but good in those rifles...

I have just recently posted this elsewhere, but I am pretty pleased with my 7mm SAUM.
It is a custom XP-100 though:

First time it had field use was when I helped teach a couple of LR shooting schools for Darrell Holland (Holland's Gunsmithing & Shooters Supply http://www.hollandguns.com/) at the end of April through early May. I took my 7mm SAUM center-grip XP and my 7mm Rem Mag Improved MOA--Can't let the rifle guys have all the fun
Worked long days, but it was very enjoyable.
Darrell has opened the school to specialty pistol shooters when I am there, but we had none this year.
When I had some free time when the students were on solo mode I was able to do some shooting between 400 to just under 900 yards.
Good fortune was on my side, because I never missed steel one time.
I wish I could say this is always the case, but it is not so. Most of the target were 10"x16", but there were two humanoid targets like the one pictured below.

Also, about 20 rifle guys got introduced to specialty handguns at long range.
None of this shooting was from the bench and there were no wind flags.
One of the students from the second class watched me shoot beyond 800 yards in a 14mph wind on last day of class, told me that if he had read or heard someone talk about such a shot with a specialty handgun he would say that person is full of cow manure (I edited his actual words). I asked him what thought about it now, and he said with a smile, I witnessed it myself and I still can't believe it."

Two one-shot attempts at 775 yards (one shot per person).
This was Jody's first shot from a SP, although I had him dry-fire several times to get used to the trigger.
He was one of the assistant instructors for the second class.
His brother helped with the first class and shot both specialty handguns good also.

I kidded with Jody afterward, telling him "long-range handgunning so easy that even a rifleman can do it."
