7mm SAUM to 6.5mm SAUM

I have a 7mm saum and noticed several people are building a 6.5 saum. What are the advantages/ disadvantages of converting to the 6.5.
Any advice welcome and appreciated.

Short answer:
You get more velocity and barrel wear for slightly less recoil.

The pendulum seems to swing back and forth on this one. Going back about 10 years everyone was shooting the 6.5 Gap 4s (6.5 SAUM). Most were shooting 140 class bullets over the very consistent and slow burning H1000.

As bullet manufactures kicked development into high gear, the big 7s had a reasonable BC advantage. Shooters slowly gravitated back to the 7s.

The 6.5 Gap was also geared towards early PRS competition where more shots were taken prone and less from precarious positions and barricades. Prone shooting took advantage of the additional speed of the high BC 6.5s.

As PRS evolved most shooters shifted to the low recoil 6mms.

Today it seems the easy button is 6.5 PRC. It will be much easier to source components and has very similar if not equal performance.
