7mm Rem Mag

Take different women to dinner and they order different things. You gun is like a woman. It will probably want something different than the one I have and another I occasionally load for.

Both like Hornady 154 SST's. One likes 64 gr. of Rel 22 and mine likes 66 gr. They both put the deer "to sleep".

As for yours ... who knows?

Buck, try this load. 139gr Hornady "Interbond" seated to a C.O.A.L. of 3.350. I use 70.0grs. of RL-22 and a Rem 9&1/2 MAG. Primer. It shoots just under 1.5" @ 200 yards and is traveling at 3250f.p.s. A friend and I were out hunting Axis Deer and could also shoot pigs. He had my rifle with that load and shot a pig (about 225 pounds) right at a 120+/- yards with it. The pig was headed directly away from him and he shot it in the rear end. The bullet traveled the entire length of the pig and blew out the side of his head! ThI would trust that load on Elk!

Buck
If you value your face and other body parts do not use others load data, every chamber is different, start low and work up with info from a reloading manual, be safe and good shooting.
Ron

Hey Ron, that RL-22 load actually comes from my Reloaders Manual.. However, as you say, you should work up to any load... For a hunting load, out of a hunting rifle, it is very accurate and my cases last several firings.

Yes Ben thats the same powder and charge weight I use for 140 nos. BT. and its safe in my rifle but like I stated chambers are different your c.o.a.l. may be too long for Bucks chamber.
No offence meant. Have a good day,

Ron

Oh there was no offense taken Ron in the first place... It was a good point and all I did was clarify what I should have stated in my first response..

I have one 7mm rem mag that shoots 150 nosler BT's using IMR 7828 really well, the load is in the nosler book. I have taken 7 or 8 animals with that rifle. I have had good loads in several 7 mags that liked IMR 4350 with the Sierra 160 BT. I have right now four 7mm Rem mags and each one is slightly different. My newest is a custom and I shoot the Berger 168 hunting VLD which I used to kill a big bull moose in Colorado last year, the Berger worked great on him. My outfitter got first place with it in the outfitter association contest. That Berger bullet is amazing, I would hunt any lower 48 animals with it. My Buddy with a GunWerks 7mm Rem Mag rifle killed his Wyoming moose at 514 yds one shot bang flop with the Berger bullet. Another guy took a nice 6X6 bull elk in AZ at 200yds, shot thru the shoulder and it went about 35 yds. My moose went 5 yds and stood there weaving and I hit him again. We use H1000 with that bullet. My rifle chrono'd at 3050 ft/sec. I have killed some animals with the Hornady 162 spbt not the A-max, it works good. I have burnt many pounds of the H870 in 7mm Rem mags with 160 class bullets. Good luck, see what your rifle likes.

hey uncle Buck,,,Im usually the odd-ball in the bunch,,,you are getting good advice,,the 7 mag is ez to get to shoot good,,,great cal.....I use stout/max loads of H-4831(Fed-215) and like the accuracy of Sierra bullets,,,have loaded a lot of 150's---175's with great results....I load a lot for buddies that have the $$$ and time to go to Alaska/Wyoming/Montana and hunt ,,,one of them has shot several bears (big uns) with the 175,,,he shot one sorta like the hog story earlier in this thread,,,except it was from front to back!!! the bear was walking/trotting towards him and he shot it just under the chin/mouth ,,,sorta thru the throat/adams apple and the bullet went clear thru all organs, guts, etc., and was lodged in the rump!!!((thats aprox 7 feet of bear)),,,he chided me that there was NO exit wound,,,,hahahahha,,,,,Roger
