7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel; which caliber?

Sorry for yet another which caliber thread but looking for some input from those that have taken this path numerous times.

I have a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag that is getting near to the end of it's accurate life. This started out life as a factory Rem 700 Long Range (B&C Stock) that was inlet by CDI a few years back for AICS mags. I mainly shoot groups at 500 and in plus steel out to 1350 with the occasional trip to the desert to shoot a mile.

I plan on doing a remage rebarrel myself and would like to stick to the same bolt face diameter. I am considering 6.5 PRC but I do like the 7mm selection of bullets that I use and am familiar with. If I was to stay with 7mm and not do a RM again; what should I be looking at? Does 7mm WSM work fine from a magazine on a long action?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Cheers.

7mm LRM (Long Range Magnum). Developed by Gunwerks in colaboration with Hornady.
Essentially the 375 Ruger necked down. The forerunner to the PRC from Hornady.
Supposedly a simple ream job from the Rem Mag. Gives more case capacity without going full bore RUM capacity.

28 Nosler.

7 SAUM or 7mm-.270 WSM if, you can handle, a "Wildcat" !
Pushing that, Awesome 168 gr. Berger HVLD at, some nice,.. Velocity !
When, my .270 WSM, goes "South", i'll go with, the 7mm-270 WSM for,.. Elk and LR Target !

Awesome stuff guys, lots to consider! I should have mentioned I would like move away from a belted case. I bump off the shoulder but I have had brass issues with RM. I used Hornady in the beginning and I think I went too hard on case forming a stretched them out too quickly? That and I over bumped by about 5 thou at one point (not sure how) and got a separation. Never fun. Current PPU brass I am using seems ok but once bitten twice shy.

Sounds interesting. 7mm PRC basically?

7mm Practical (7mm-300WM)? Stick with those nice 7mm bullets but more powder capacity...

Scrummy
I know nothing about this case so I'll need to read up on it.

The 6.5 PRC will feed fine from a long action. I have one on a LA 700.
Thanks, good to hear.

I would stick with the 7mm over a 6.5 for your use. If I changed calibers I would go to 30.
I would like to avoid 30 caliber purely because I like the heavy 7mm bullet selection

Buy a 7 mag take off barrel....if you can find one.Pin the lug, easy to switch barrel...
Not a bad idea but probably going for a slightly heavier profile

Don't know whose barrel you favor or who you intend to do the chambering. You might consider SPR and their "Bugnut" system. I prefer it in appearance over the other barrel nut system.
I was considering Northland Shooter and one of their Criterion barrels. I have used SPR for a barrel blank from Bartlein on another gun that a local smith did for me so I know they are good peoples :)

Barrel burner no? More so that RM I thought.

Seems like metric ton of powder for a 7mm. I looked up some loads for similar bullets I use and the range was 13-16grs more powder. My shoulder thanks you lol

7 saum
Just one of my favorites

SAUM was a consideration. What velocity and barrel life with 160 class bullets can I expect?

7mm RM. Why switch?
7mm Rem mag, why switch? I am shooting bug holes with 140g, 168g Berger hunting, and 180g Berger VLD hunting.

Easy button for here.

28" 9t shoots the 160g Accubonds at 3200 fps, 168g Bergers same speed, Retumbo and 215's.
Noted above that I'd prefer to switch to no belt. I am not opposed completely to doing another RM but it would depend on whether I can find some decent brass. I love the ADG brass I use in my 6 Creed so that would be ideal. Probably not the best time to being doing this tbh.

Thanks to all again, keep the suggestions and comments coming and have a great day!

Then the 7mm Wsm will match your 7mm mag or go A little over depending on throat. With the long action you will probably be over your mag. So many options...so little time!

The 7mm LRC is non belted.
And i believe the body is 0.532", like the belt on the Rem Mag. So there is a capacity increase.

And just so your aware, Peterson is now making 7mm Rem Mag brass.
Check out Grafs, or Euro Optics.

I'll go another route. The 284 win on a long action. Less barrel wear than the 7RM and can achieve better velocity than factory 7mm mag ammo. It's a win, win if your worried about eating up barrels from fast magnum cartridges. I suggested it thinking maybe you wanted a step up in performance. The 284 win is ideal for getting more mileage than the 7 mag and close performance.

Retumbo and 7828 currently. Just ran out of H1000
Those two are very different powders. Full case of each hits pressure with very different bullet weights. Hard to optimize behind a single twist rate with these two powders.

I'd say 7 rem mag and 300 win mag are your best bet. The short mags don't have the boiler room for retumbo and the super overbore magnums cant use 7828 well. So something in the middle like the 7RM and 300 win mag can use both. 180s/retumbo and 150-168s/7828 in 7rm. 230s/retumbo and 200s and 7828 in 300 win.

8.5ish twist for the 7mms

9ish twist for 30 cal.
