7mm Rem Mag or 6.5 Creed

The wins with the Creedmoor are out there but I know you don't really care anyways and just want to talk it down so not going to waste my time do your homework for you. Go look. You will find them.

If you knew I didn't care as you stated, why did you post the link? Pretty stupid logic if you ask me. Just like owning a Creedmoor when there's better choices out there. Have a nice day.

Not sure what link you are talking about as I didn't post one to you. But it's funny to watch grown men have such hate for an inanimate cartridge LOL

Mr. hooper said that getting a .308 would be a good idea since it sounds like a good in-between cartridge. Anyone else have thoughts on it vs the 6.5 and 7mm for my uses? Thanks!
I would most definitely get the 308 if that's an option for your purposes. You will learn a lot from a good ol 308.

Far as Calibers Go I dont really care. Shoot something you like and can buy ammo for.
6.5 creed, .308, 223 would be my recomendation.

.308 will kill any thing in north america and ammo is easy.

My personal opinion is that "OUT OF THE BOX" $500 or less, the Rifles I have had the best experiences with are the HOWA or The Weatherby Vanguard by legacy sports.

Have never had one that would not shoot at least .75moa, some much better, and you can get them in Many Configurations.
https://www.legacysports.com/catalog/howa/

They have good bottom medal and magazines and just "FEEL" like a solid rifle.
Actions are solid and Slick

I Have them in 7mag, 308, 7mm-08,6.5 grendle and .223 but not a creedmore.(I shoot 6.5x47L in my 6.5 rifles)
Howas come with a better stock and have a descent 2 stage trigger.

The Ruger Americans Also Shoot Good and come in lots of calibers but they just feel "Junky" to me.
I have one in a stockys stock that feels MUCH better but then you are over $500.

Put one of each in your Hands and you can feel the difference.

I have had a Remington 700 in lots of calibers and still do but the newer ones that are around $5-700. , have not shot as well for me and my friends.

Watch Gunbroker for deals on Howas or Weatherby Vanguards.

Bought a New Series 2 Weatherby Vanguard 22" Heavy barrel in .308 for $379 shipped for My Nephew at NORTHERN FIREARMS.

Just Checked they still Have them. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/738159578

This Rifle shoots .6 moa at 150yds with black hills Match 168 amaxs.

All my other Howa calibers except the 6.5 mini, I paid less than $440. shipped

Just my opinions, but I have bought and shot all the rifles I am discussing.
(Have a lot of grandkids and Nephews)

Good Luck

Capt. Ben

I own multiple of both.

Of course 7mm is going to outperform 6.5 CM ballistically and with energy. That's like saying .223 is faster and flatter than 22LR, but does that mean 22lr is useless?

As far as 6.5 CM compared to other short action 6.5s, they perform so similarly it doesn't matter. The only real difference is brass cost. I lose 75% of my brass at a match and I don't care. Can't say the same if I shot either of the others.

For. 7 Mag to exceed the performance of a 6.5 Creed loafed with a modern high BC 140’ish gr bullet requires the use of 160 plus grain Bullets...lots more powder and substantial recoil. 1/2 as much barrel life on the 7.

ballistics says....

7mm 140 gr... 2950 fps.. zero at 255 yds... BC of 0.485 = 63.58" drop at 600 yds... with 10 mph cross wind = 28.25" wind drift.

6.5 140 gr...2850 fps... zero at 250 yds... BC of 0.520 = 64.47" at 600 yds... and 25.04" wind drift.

SO............ the 6.5 has about 1 inch of more drop.... but 3 inch less wind drift. The 7mm only needs 100 fps more to equal the 6.5... BUT... the 7mm will have another 150 ft lbs of killing energy. It does not need a larger bullet weight, but it will use a tad more powder, but not enough to burn out barrels that much quicker.

Depends on your specific rifle and load. My 7mm rem mag pushes a 180 eld-m at 3050.

I still recommend the 6.5 Creedmoor to the OP but I'll be the first to say it doesn't touch 7mm RM ballistics.

ETA: I see you were responding to the post above you. I see your point now.
