7mm Rem Mag Deer Load

I am looking for a load for a friends 7mm Rem Mag. He has a stock ruger m77. What's a good load for the 140gr sierra spitzer? What do y'all think about this bullet? Shots are at whitetails out to 200 yards. I would rather not go more than 140 grains. I was thinking reloader 22. Recommendations on bullets, powder, primers, and brass welcome. Thanks, Nick

The load that has always worked for me was 67.5-68 gr RL 19. I never tried the RL 22 before, but I would think you would need 150+ grs to overtake RL 19 imo. This was the load I used with 140 gr NP/NBTs.

I'm a big fan of the 7mm Rem mag, but I generally use 160 - 175 grain bullets. Reloader 22 has proven to give great velocity and accuracy from several different 7mm Rem mag rifles I've worked with. Winchester brass holds up well to magnum level loads.

I think that for deer at 200 yards, your friend has plenty of gun!

The 140's will be fast, and likely a bit fragile, but should do the trick very quickly. Only things I can remember shooting with 140's are coyotes - and the 140 gr Rem core-lockt bullets I was using ripped 'em up bad and dropped 'em right now.

Regards, Guy

sewwhat and m700, thanks for the input. M700, have you ever had any problems with the Winchester brass?

Nope. No problems. I don't expect it to rival Lapua out of the box, but it is decent stuff, and a little attention to it before loading helps. I buy it in those 50-round plastic bags.

I routinely de-burr the flash hole, not sure it does much good though), resize the stuff, then trim it all to one consistent length before loading. Doesn't take long, and lets me get a good eyeball on each piece of brass. It seems to hold up well to repeated warm loads too.

Regards, Guy

I had great luck with 68.0gr. of Reloder 19 with a 140gr. Nosler in Federal brass. Reloder 22 does better is some 7 Mags, but not others. My last one did not like it at all.

I picked up some rl19, sierra 120's, federal mag primers, and ww cases. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Thanks for all the input.

I shoot 162 A-Max's, Fed. GM 215M, and 65 grains of RL 22. Remington 700 24 inch barrel shoots 5 shots in 0.5inch group at 100 yards and 3 shot 1 inch groups at 300 yards at 2926 fps. These bullets have a great BC and work wonders on whitetails.

A friend has the same gun as you spoke of. We have found that it loves 139 SST Hornady Premium factory shells. 5 shots in a dime at 100 yards. Maybe worth a try. You can pick up a box for around $30.00 and if your not shooting at anything but deer, they should last you a few seasons.

FOR HUNTING....hard to beat the good ole' Nosler Partition, I use the 140 grain version and have killed a railroad car full of deer over the 30+ years of using one, have never lost one and most fall in their tracks or certainly in their shadow...Also, for you new age types....the BARNES X-BULLET...all my other rifles are loaded with them and they also are awesome...talk about penetration, I've never recovered one and my kids and wife are not perfect shots and still every single deer has been recovered or dropped also in their tracks...as far as powder..I use H-4350 for just about everything.and Remington 9 1/2 mag primers fuel them all...If I only had one powder to choose, it would be H-4350, it is clean and I've never seen a rifle that didn't like it..it's in everything I own from 6mm Rem to .338 win mag...velocity and clean...
