7MM Rem Mag bullets

I used to use them, as long as you use them a bit further out, close in and they can not always though blow up, under 150 yards and id try to put them just behind the shoulder.
Ive now gone to the 7mm 175 Smk and take out the front shoulders

I shot a smallish Pig(75 lb. field dressed?) at 134 yards with an A-Max from a 7mmRM. Quartering away shot with bullet entering behind the front shoulder angled to the middle of the offside shoulder. Bullet was never found but did not exit! The Pig was DRT but I certainly couldn't recommend it for Elk at that range or velocity. A-Max kill like the "Hammer of Thor" but understand their limitations! JMHO ;) Please be fair to your quarry.

No takers for the 160gr. Accubond?? I always thought it was a great step up from the A-Max..hunting wise. I'm very familiar with the accuracy of the A-Max at long range; 500-1000yds, but curious if anyone has experience with the AccuBonds at that range> No intentions of hijacking this thread by a slight topic change. Thanks, Eric in DL

A couple of my buddies use Nosler Part, Accubond, Barnes and have good luck with them. They all have the penetration for less than optimal shots.

Myself and two friends are using the Berger 168 VLD hunting bullet in our 7mm Rem mags. It has killed 2 moose, 2 bull elk, mule deer, and antelope. out to 512 yds on one moose and 426 yds on a 330" bull elk, all were one shot kill's. My moose won the outffiter award for first place in Colorado for 2012, it was shot at 200 yds and the bullet jacket was found on the far side under the hide after going thru both front shoulders. They (168 Berger's) will hold MOA at 600 yds out of our rifles.

I like having exit holes. Even with the famous Elmer Keith "raking shot". A sucking chest wound on both sides of the body is always fatal.

162g SST is tough enough for KUDU and Eland......

shout out of 7 STW at 3150, PH was very impressed, 12 plains game animal variety taken, all DRT!

the 162g SST is tougher than the A max and shoots better in my custom 7 Mag.

Took a whitetail this year at 310 yards with a 7 MM Mag pushing a 162A Max. shot was placed behind the shoulder pit. The deer immediately folded on the spot. I was satisfied with the results.

Used a 154 SST this year to make a perfect kill on a 194 lb 10 pt at 490 yards.

Blew through and expanded super. Closer kills with that bullet in my 7mm mag are the same. I would use them on elk confidently.

I shot 2 elk cows last year with the 208 amax at 500 yards worked ok,bullet found just under the hide on far side of the shoulder 300winmag @ 2900fps

A lot of guys use bullets not designed for hunting for hunting. They will usually kill regardless under "better" circumstances. The AMAX bullet was not designed for hunting and even Hornady advises against using for hunting on their website (look under particulars for bullets). I lost a really nice elk where perfect shot placement resulted in a failure to retrieve situation due to the bullet blowing up. I switched to Barnes TTSX bullets. I'd look for another bullet.

If you failed to retrieve the animal how do you know you made a "perfect shot"??? Did the elk send you a letter from the hospital while he was recovering? Lol ;D

I guess maybe you could tell the bullet blew up too just by the way he jumped when it hit... Cmon man, get real!
