7MM Rem Mag /180gr. Berger

My new build will be complete soon. I will be shooting the 180 gr Berger Hybrids out of a 28" 1:9 twist barrel. Considering H1000 and Retumbo. What powder seems to be best for this combo and what speeds are you getting?
Thanks

Retumbo and H1000 are perfect choices for the 7mm Rem. Velocities depend on too many variable but around 2900-3000fps would be the range. Maybe more if you like to buy brass often.

Thanks
I ran H1000 When I was shooting 168 gr bergers out of a 26" inch 9.25 twist. It shot great just did not know about that powder with the heavier bullet and faster twist.

I use H1000 in my 7mm Rem Mag and .338 Edge. It's very temperature stable and in the .338 Edge velocity spread is only 10fps.

I've shot that exact combo 180 berger hybrid and vlds with retumbo and h1000 out of a 28" barrel. Berger lists the max at 2880 velocity for retumbo but out of my 28" Shilen barrel I was getting 3050 to 3120 with no pressure signs. But ES was not consistent. I would have decent groups but my ES would be like 50fps. The retumbo never seemed to reach the point of diminishing returns either. The more powder I added the faster the bullet went. H1000 on the other hand is much more mild mannered. Extreme spreads with h1000 were around 12fps. But it seemed to top out around 2950fps with about the same groups as the retumbo. At 100yds the ES doesn't make much difference if at all but it will at distance. In fact the best 100yd group I've ever shot was with 180 Berger vlds and 69.2gr retumbo. It was .16" but the ES was 43fps. So if you want consistent velocity go with h1000 if you want blistering speed go with retumbo. But good luck finding either of them now.

I forgot to mention one difference is my barrel has a 1-8" twist. According to berger 1-9" is sufficient but I didn't know that when I ordered the barrel. Supposedly a faster twist will produce lower mv so as long as your chamber can handle the same pressure as mine without issue you might get faster mv.

I think if your gonna push the 180s that hard you'll be replacing brass pretty regular. I think 2800-2900 is about max to try and push with that barrel length and weight. I would try h1000 but I've had best results with 140-162 with h4831sc. I get about 2980 with my 162 a max and 3200 almost with my 140 Berger. Mines a 1-9.25 twist

H4831SC, H1000, and Retumbo are all good powders (mine liked H1000 the best); RL-22 and RL-25 also work well. Don't overlook IMR 7828ssc (I was stunned how well it worked in rifles that liked H1000).

With a 28" tube you might get the 3000 fps node, but the brass will last longer is you stick to the 2,800 or 2,900 nodes.

Good luck with Retumbo if you can get some I was hoping it would work for me but the ES was 77 fps so I have 7 pounds sitting. I got some H1000 the other day and got a chance to do a ladder test it looks promising.

Got a customer using retumbo with 180 hybrids .015 off. He has shot some groups under a 1/4 moa with that combo out to 650 yards off the bipod. Hes pushing the 180 at 2990 fps.
