It's winter here above the 60Th parallel so the mind has time to wonder. With the trend in F class going to 7mm; has anyone necked the .300RCM to 7mm? Considering the variations of the short magnums, I wonder if this case may have a very versatile powder capacity? I know that folks are playing around with the 7mm SAUM, 7mmWSM and the .300WSM necked down. Plus the standard .284 and some versions of that.
My thought would be to take the .300RCM case and run it into a full length bushing sizing die with a bushing to accommodate a 7mm bullet. Run an expander in the neck and outside neck turn to 0.012-0.013" Use a bushing type seater die--Not real difficult--Right?? Make a couple of dummy rounds and send them off to Mr. Kiff. Use a standard .300RCM go gage.
Then again, is this just a futile exercise, or would it have some merit?
