6.5 Rem Mag necked to 7mm. Anyone have any experience with this cartridge? Thanks all, Brian.

Sounds like a slightly smaller version of the 7 WSM and 7 SAUM.

What GSPV said...maybe looks like it would be in the 284/280 territory. And from what I understand....6.5 Rem Mag brass is hard to come by.

I don't have any of these, but when I decide to get one, it most likely would be the 284...great brass, lots of load data, and extremely accurate.

On the other hand.....having something different is fun , too!!:)

i say would not be worth the trouble. Improve a 7mm Saum or neck up a 264 WinMag if you want to play. A lot of people have to go through wildcatting to get it out of their systems. I am one of those people. I have several such endeavors. Have fun but it doesn't take long and you lose interest in most of these great ideas.

Wouldn't a necked up 264 just be a 7mm rem mag? Both are 2.5 long, 25 degree shoulder, .489 - 491 width at the body/shoulder junction, 5.32 case head, etc....

Would a 6.5 RM necked up be bigger or smaller than the 7 SAUM? I thought it would be smaller, but like I said, I don't have one, and it's been years since I held a 6.5 RM in my hand.

...but I agree with you...in any case....other than the "one off factor" , it wouldn't be worth the trouble. Why reinvent the wheel.

You are right Tod, forgot 7 remmag. A Saum case is around 4 gr more than a 6.5 Rem. Ain't much that hasn't been necked up or down.

Well I wasn't really going for if I should or not, cause we did in 78. We even put it in one of those new fangled Lee Six Fiberglass stocks. Was trying to see if anyone has worked with newer powders in it. But thanks for all that have responded so far. Wealth of info, mostly good, on this site. Thanks all, Brian.
