7mm PRC components

flexible

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi everyone, flexible here. Well Christensen and Savage announced rifles in 7mm PRC today. I've started the hunt for ammo, brass, etc.
I don't have a rifle yet but I want to see how good an idea it is to jump into this caliber.
I've found some decent 7mm bullets but no brass, Roberson was my last shot and they don't respond to e-mails and their voice mail is full.
Was on the phone with Redding and they do have dies but there is no catalog numbers yet. Midway doesn't have and Brownells hasn't gotten back to me yet.
How is everyone else doing with components for this caliber?
thanks

Currently I have a guy bring me components in the next few weeks for a 7prc build and according to him he has 300 pieces of brass and dies inbound from a dealer friend of his. I don’t know the particulars so I can’t say how this dealer has managed to get his hands on it. Time will tell.

BTW, Christensen Arms is one company offering the 7mm PRC in an MRP.
I know 2 people who love Christensen but have seen some negative comments.
do you guys have any opinions/info?

I have noticed some internet comments by folks who claim they had trouble with carbon wrapped barrels from Christensen, but we all know how untrustworthy internet complaints can be. I would take all that with a grain of salt since we have no way to know if those folks did their part or not. I would also add, at any point even the best gun makers have had a bad barrel and the question becomes one of how long it takes them to flip a good one for the customer.

BTW: here is a list from Hornady for the gun makers they claim will be offering 7 PRC now or in the near term.

I have a CA mesa in 6.5 prc. Took over 100 rounds to get barrel to shoot. Then was having brass sizing issues. Could take my brass and fit in a friends browning just fine. I have got that fixed i think. I would look at another brand first

I have had chamber issues with 2 Christensen rifles now. Very inaccurate, and their customer service was not very great. They definitely use the "barrel break-in" procedure to cover their ass. Would recommend you get a reputable gunsmith to build you what you want.

I'd have to be another one to say the last couple Christensen rifles I've worked on for customers were very difficult to get decent hunting accuracy out of.Don't know what's going on with them.Barrel quality seems to be not so good.

been thinking and even the one guy who loves his Christensen had chambering issues last time we did long range shooting. it was with new factory Hornady

A friend bought a Christensen 280 AI earlier this year for a Dall hunt and I spent a fair amount of time working up loads since he couldn't find factory ammo. The gun shot very well with 160 Nosler Partition and 162 Hornady SST.
Not long before he left we found some factory 160 Partitions which shot sub-moa.
The rifling was very rough (viewed through my teslong) and copper fouled terribly. I followed break in procedure and it got a little better but still fouled after at least 100 rounds. It did not shoot as well clean.

Redding told me that they are making 7PRC dies currently. However, there is no stock number yet and you must place an order for their custom dies through a stocking dealer.
