7mm Blaser vs RSAUM or?

I’m considering a long range 284/7mm rifle that will be able to push a 180gr bullets at 3000fps frim 26” barrel.

From my side I feel that the 28Nosler is perhaps a little overkill and the RSAUM will most likely be a little to small. Is the 7mm Blaser the only “in between” 7mm with good quality brass ir what else would you recommend?

Can anyone comment on how easy it is to extract low ES and required accuracy from the 7mm Blaser?

Defensive Edge Rifles built me a 7mm Blaser Mag off of a Rem 700 a couple years ago and it's been a very easy to load for medium-large case size cartridge. Mine has a Hart fluted #4 contour 9tw finished at 26 inches less brake. I'm shooting the Berger 180 Hunting VLD with 68.5gr RL26 and that gives me 3088-3100fps ES 12. In a 26 inch configuration it'll run right with the bigger 7's but when you start hanging longer barrels on them the bigger 7's start to pull away.

Even with a heavy NF NXS 5.5-22x50 and laminated wood stock, it's not a particularly heavy gun. I think it's around 9.5lbs and easily could be well under that with a different optic and McM Edge fill stock. As mine is configured, the recoil is pretty minimal and I'd have no concern shooting it without the brake on if I wanted to shorten it up a bit.

Thank you. Always nice to get feedback from someone with some real world experience.

I also feel that the 7mm Blaser is a good fit between the RSAUM and Nosler.

I stumbled onto some new 7mm Blaser brass for a very reasonable price so I decided to build a rifle and test the cartridge. Off-the-shelf reamer CIP specs. This case is perfect for using a long action with the heavier/longer bullets seated out while staying within the "normal" magazine lengths, avoiding the Wyatt's boxes altogether. :D

Berger 180 grain VLD will net 3,000 fps+ a little with:

Retumbo
Norma 217
VVN-570

Of these, the Retumbo is ideal in case fill, velocity and accuracy in my rifle/barrel combination. Re-26 didn't offer the case filling I usually want and didn't perform up to expectations accuracy-wise. But, my rifle/barrel not yours or others. ;)

I also have a good supply of Matrix 7mm 190 grain bullets so I tested them. While the performance was adequate, I want a case with some more horsepower to move this bullet along faster. Just a little stodgy for my desires.

The case capacity of the 7mm Blaser is 82.0 grains of H2O approximately. This compares to the WSMs and the 7mm Rem. Mag. For some folks it's just the ability of not dealing with the belt on a belted magnum although it's a simple matter to create very accurate rifles using belted as well and any of the beltless case.

The Blaser Magnum can reach the 3,000 fps range using the 180 gr. VLDs over a full case of Retumbo which is a cooler burning powder, which should improve case life somewhat. This is also staying within the standard LA magazine box length without resorting to the Wyatt's extensions. If you're from California and have regulations regarding which bullets you can shoot, the 155 or the 177 Hammer Hunter is an excellent choice for performance on the larger game. I've found that the Berger 168 gr. Classic Hunter is an excellent choice for accuracy as well.

What about a 7mm-300PRC?
I think it would have a little less case capacity, probably somewhere around 75gr of water. My 7mm Blaser cases measure 83gr H2O unfired and just a little over 84gr after they've been fired.
