7mm-08

Just wondering if anyone had good luck with 1:8 twist on a 7mm-08? The reason I am asking is because I am trying to replace my Remington stock barrel with a custom barrel.

I have a custom 700 with an Obermeyer 1 in 8 3/4" twist that shoots just fine. I am sure 1 in 8" would work fine, especially with heavier bullets. That said, I have always heard it said and seen it written that a rifle in general will be most accurate with the slowest twist that will stabilize the bullet weight you are shooting. I have pretty much found this to be true.

My brother's 7mm-08 shoots 175gr spbt out of a 9.5" twist.

A 9" twist would be better than a 8 twist, unless you plan on shooting Berger 195 gr EOL. Which I would not do in a 7mm08.

But for some reason it wouldn't bother me if I had a 8" twist 7mm-08. I'd still shoot 140gr and heavier bullets.

My 7-08 is a 1:9.5" also. My heaviest load is with a 140. I could go with heavier bullets, but they shoot better in my guns with more powder capacity. 7-08 will handle the heavier bullets, but you work into more recoil which kinda, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of the little 7-08.

Mine is a 1:9, 1:8 won't hurt esp if you want to shoot the long accubonds
