Loading some 7mm-08 ammo, need some help-

Im not new to reloading, im just new to this cartridge. was wondering if anyone else is using this setup.

I am using a Remington 700 Custom , Sinclair Inc.
1-9.5 twist Hart Barrel

Components are:
Nosler Custom Brass
Nosler 140 gr Accubond
Federal Match Primer
IMR 8208 XBR powder

I started my loads at 37.1 gr and finished at 38.0 gr. using the ladder system. 4 round test group. for a total of 24 loaded rounds. 6 loads in total. I am using the info that Hodgdon has for this . Im I going in the right direction.

What load do you all recommend for this powder. Thanks in advance.

Im shooting a Remmy factory original only thing that was done was bedding. I am loading
46 grains of good old IMR 4350
CCI 200 primers
Crappie Remmy Brass
140 Nosler Partitions
The pic is a 5 shot group at 100 yards.
I think it will b ok for PA whitetails :P

I also have a M700 factory, pillar bedded and replaced the firing pin with one made of titanium with 28# spring. Mine shot very similar to the group above using:
42 gr Varget
Win brass
CCI 200
Nosler 140 BT Combined Tech.

I eventually ran out of the Varget I was using. I purchased another pound and the dang thing is all over the place. Nothing changed except the Varget. I believe that I am going to change to a more consistent powder.

try 4064 around the 41-43 gr area dependint onyour rifle, mine shoot this into .5 all day long with the nosler bt 140s

bob

Mine would only shoot flat based bullets. It shot the remington 140 core lokt factory ammo almost as good as my handloaded partitions. I tried different boat tail designs and it wouldnt group at all. I tried some Hornady Superperformance 139sst factory loads and if i remember correctly it shot 4"-5" groups. I never saw a gun hate a load this bad. Did u do a break in on the barrel and how many rounds are thru it??

I'm still working on mine, I'm using WW brass and 140 Accubonds, max (compressed) loads with H4350 (in the 48gr range) at ~2800fps are showing promise. This is a brand new barrel with <50 rounds through it and I have still got some testing to do.

I messed up ordering my reamer from PTG, I had on my target shooting hat and forgot that I was planning to have to mag load so it's throated really long to shoot 162Amaxes seated out so it's jumping like a Weatherby. My bad. I may have to get it the reamer re-cut and get it re-chambered. My first test ladders I was able to get to about 1MOA at 200 yards. This is a trued, bedded action with a Rock Creek barrel so it should do better than that. Still working.

I just did a low recoil load in a 7-08 , that shoots well . I used a 120 grain nosler Ballistic tip , 39.0 gr of H4895 , CCI200 primer , RP brass . quickload says velocity is 2716FPS . I didn't have time to confirm it . this rifles total weight is 7lb 9oz . quickload says it has under 10.5 ft lbs of recoil ( 10.2 IIRC ) this is a new rifle that has about 25 rounds through it now . the top two taped holes were the last shoot one and clean . the bottom three taped holes are the first three shot group fired by the new shooter . the three holes on top are my 3 shot group at 100 yards .

I have two other 7-08's but I have them loaded close to , or at max . one uses IMR4064 with hornady 139 BTSP . the other uses RL17 with berger 140 hunting vld's . I can look up these loads if your interested . Jim

If a picture is worth a thousand words what would 3 videos be worth ?

Thanks everyone. i eventuallyy already used imr 4350. and im getting the same issue with imr 8208. Just came from the range. the only time my rifle groups nice is when the rifle is cold. but due to me living in south texas its always warm weather so I get the barrel hot with just 5 rounds down range. and it takes a long time to :cool down. Going to try H4895. :(
From the load your shooting id guess its a meat gun, unless your warming the barrel a few shots before ya shoot at whatever your going to eat it wont care if your barrel is cold. ;D ;D

I use sierra 120 grn Spitzer pro hunter with hogden varget in me rem 700 mountain rifle it shoots lights out I've shot many whitetails with this load drops them in there tracks been shooting this load for many years many of my buddies shoot this also.

In the three 7/08's I have/had with 140-150 gr bullets I have found that WW760-H100V - H380 - RL 15 and StaBall 6.5 have been great. The velocity king was StaBall 6.5 but taking velocity and accuracy into account H100V was best. The only time I used IMR8208 was with a 168 gr bullet. Worked up to 37.5 grs. Accuracy was not good . For whatever reason I feel 8208 may be a little on the fast burning side for 140 gr bullets in the 7/08. JMO

When I started, I was using Remington brass and a 140 Partition. The powder it liked was IMR4350 and would not shoot Varget. I switched to Lapua Brass with same bullet, and my load changed. With the Lapua Brass the rifle would not shoot IMR 4350 and would Varget. When I first went to the range after changing brass, I thought something was wrong with the rifle or scope. But it was the load. This rifle has a 700 action, a #6 Krieger 9 twist barrel, McMillian pillar bedded stock and is a SHOOTER!

Well like everyone else I can't give advice from real experience on 8208. It is a bit fast for your application but it could be that is what you have and you're rolling with it. What kind of results did you get from your test? Did you see pressure from the 38.0 Gr load? The hodgdon data goes up to 39.7 Gr but they specified a Remington case and primer. I used Win 760 with CCI250 primers. Worked great. Deer didn't seem to mind that it was Temp sensitive powder;)

My wife's 7-08 uses this same 120 ballistic tip/h4895 load. Very effective on whitetails!
