77 grain SMKs for 600 yards?

Older thread, but I shoot the H75 HPBT or PPU 75 bthp out to 600 over ~24gr RL15 or 23.2 of 8208 from a NMA2 and if its not a clean target its not the bullets fault.

I see that you have a bunch of data already; I agree that the 77 will shoot inside the 69 at 600y, and that your limitation is really how your barrel performs. I'd expect that you'll find best loads around 2600-2650fps and that those will be near maximum.

Varget being popular, n140, TAC, h33, blc2, r-15, 2460 are also nearly as good and differences depend on your loading techniques and shooting discipline. H4895 being the hidden secret locally, is typically a little slower.

Advice, don't chase velocity. Let the BC do it's job, instead chase accuracy and then learn to read the wind.

Just put 24 grains of Varget or N140 in a case and stuff a 77 mag length on top - it will clean the MR1 if you can hold. That’s kinda the standard by which everything else is measured in this sport.

The 77 SMK is a great accurate bullet! That said, I would prefer a SMK 80 or JLK 80 at 600 yards out of an AR with a 7-twist barrel....
