75vmax in a 6xc

DLT

I’m thinking about loading up some varmint rounds in my standard freebore 6xc (.160) I have not tried to find the lands with this bullet yet. Have any of you ? How did it do ? Mine is an 8 twist which will be spinning the fire out of them

I frequently load 70 SMK or 68 Bergers for 200 yards. 34 Varget or 36 H4350. Put about half the shank in the neck and shoot it. Dont think you can get them to the lands.

My 12tw 6-284 loves those 75gr Vmax and they will damn near cut a coyote in half and are most definitely on the NOT pelt friendly list. :)

I’m not either. Hell with the nasty things. The bigger the hole the better.

I had a Rem700 I rebarreled with a 1:8 twist 6xc barrel and ran 107 smk and H4350 for High Power matches and 75 Vmax and Varget for shooting kangaroos with a permit. Ran the Vmaxs a little slow at 3200 fps and it shot 1/2 MOA. Seated them deep and the jump was only slightly less than from the Earth to the Moon - they didn't care. Took several dingoes out around 300m with that load too. I was concerned that as the barrel got more life on it and became rougher that the jackets might start to fail on the Vmax bullets but it never happened.

I've been shooting them out of a 26" 1-10tw Lilja barrel chambered for the 6xc off and on for over 10 years now. They are an exceptional choice for 'yotes. They should work OK in an 8tw. Using RL-15 in mine.

The Sierra 85gr HPBT is another bullet that is very worthy of consideration too. FWIW. JME. WD

My buddy shoots 75 v max and I do the 87 v max, which are both incredibly devastating on coyotes. He can’t get to the lands with a factory chambered 243 with minimal freebore, my 87s are .075 off, both shoot great

Yep they are both good bullets. Just wondered about the long freebore in a xc

Got any loads that tend to shoot ? Or powder ? I know you have sold piles of xc barrels

Honestly I've never got the 87 VMAX to shoot in anything. But I was always shooting them in an eight-twist. Probably need a tin twist or maybe even a 12 twist. But I would guess that 40.5 grains of h4350 with an 87 VMAX would be about right.

My 243AI shoots the 87 Vmax well. I use WIN 760 at 44.5 and 45.0 grs. The 44.5 load gave me a .272 3-shot group and the 45.0 load a .152 3-shot group. Good enough for coyotes.

Got it back on my mind. This is a 75 vmax in a .160 freebore 6xc. Better than I thought. This was a crude way of doing it away from the bench but over half the neck has the bullet in it. Boat tail ends up and the neck shoulder junction. Maybe my 8 will zing em !

I have some 55gr nosler Ballistic tips loaded for my 6creed. It’s a 7.7 twist and they hold together and shoot about 3/4 to 1” at 100. Not great but good enough for a yote at 300. I can’t remember the speed but it was up close to 4000fps using tac powder. Loaded to book length they do not like to feed because they are so short.

I’ve been shooting 36ish grs of n140 behind 68bergers out of a 7.5 twist bartlein 36.0 of h4350 was a little more accurate, but wanted to use up the 140 and use 4350 on 90’s and 107s . Everything I tried with n140, h4895 and h4350 was 1/2 moa or better with the 68’s or 70 smks
